Awful distortion of the Biblical story. They didn't just "demand" their inheritance, they married their cousins so they could inherit it through them. Read Numbers 36!

It's not a distortion. God did give them their rightful inheritance, and if they married, they were do do so within their tribe to maintain the land of their lineage.
