“That doesn’t explain why she is a simple fortune teller in Castle Town, rather than serving the Royal Family in secret.” Well, I beg to differ! A visit or two from a royal messenger now and then, nobody is the wiser to the eccentric woman telling fortunes in just another street of the town. Quite incognito, that Fanadi.

Bubble Wrap Poor Impaz was forced to stay in a ghost town all alone and watch her friends and family die-either from illness or starvation or injury or Just OldAge. So, it’s more likely she’s hiding FROM the royal family. Renaldo and his daughter are hinted to be descended from the Sheikah and possibly Gerudo, as is Thelma and the Twili. Basically...the Gerudo (and probably Yiga) were marched across the desert and either died that way or were killed by the sword with whoever survived forced through the Mirror to become the Twili. The Sheikah were instead locked inside their village “by royal order” until a “Messenger from the Heavens” arrived (to save them) Impaz’s statue is identical to Renaldo’s Aesthetic, and at one point his village was on good terms with the Gorons...so it’s highly likely that the Gorons actively sheltered as many Sheikah and Gerudo as they could (who then intermarried and eventually rebuilt as New Kakariko or settled in Castle Town as Renaldo’s and Thelma’s and possibly Fanadi’s ancestors) Which, the Twili Symbol is extremely similar to the Yiga’s Reversed Eye, besides them fitting the description of the “interlopers” with “shadow magic”. (Which is all in line with the Royal Family choosing to go with Genocide to deal with nonHylian Humans who are “not in line” or “too powerful” even if they DO try to conform to Hylian Fascism. In literally every Zelda game but it’s pretty blatant in games like OoT, TP, and BotW)

Aesura Dracaheorte Ah, no. Groups splinter all the time. If it was once 10k years prior then there’s literally nothing keeping the Sheikah from fracturing much, much earlier (as they’re literally ALWAYS on the edge of extinction with their Rough Deal in BotW ironically being a “better” one-cultural genocide By Royal Order vs “True” Genocide or conveniently having them being extinct save a token member or two.) History is always cyclical, especially when dealing with prejudice and the ones doing the subjugating NEVER knocking it tf off (*coughs!* freaking hylian kings!!!) Also. Zelda is TimeyWhimey in that it draws inspiration from older titles to then fling a new title wherever they deem the most interesting point to explore. Literally how writing works. (And the “official” timelines are complete garbage, anyway. Rework them into something that literally doesn’t retcon itself by its inner lore and bits of older games directly referenced as preGame History. But since they can’t even get the geography and compass to Play Nice inbetween most installments? (And many using a standard North is Up compass) ...I’m not holding my breath for Nintendo to get its act together or just say “You guys. LEGENDS.” since the fandom by&large prefers fawning over a listing statue made from OoT’s Poop (as it’s ALL based around OoT despite the lack of Sense for a good 85% of it)) And the Twili being descended from the Sheikah and/or Gerudo IS, in fact, heavily hinted and theorized both. It’s literally a theory that’s existed since TP’s release BotW FINALLY gave us a name for this Sheikah splintergroup, as they’re clearly different from Impaz’s Tribe: *YIGA*

With lore or not, I still think that's a cool reference. Malon was an important character especially correlating with Epona, so it kinda fits. Tho I recall somewhere in the 'Creating a Champion' book that the stable designs were actually modelled by the people after Epona, the "hero's horse", and not Melanya himself (correct me if I'm wrong tho). So maybe there is an actual connection with Melanya and Malon because the designs w/ Epona are strikingly similar? Idk but still cool.

I've actually felt in OoT that the Gerudo have their own path of the King so to speak. Kind of like how BotW has the path to being a hero, I feel each ruler had to go through their own trials in order to prove themselves worthy. The Gerudo Training Grounds would have been the beginning, then the desert, and finally the Spirit Temple. The Poe itself I feel was linked to the Gerudo as a guide to the most difficult challenge of all. Not just the Spirit Temple, but being able to get back on your own once you accomplished the trials. Perhaps it was a being like Koume and Kotake, but with less of its own identity. It's is merely a spirit guide in the empty desert with only one purpose. A sad life, but one necessary to help the Gerudo face the harsh world around them.

He seems to have strong connections to not only horses but Malon herself. Malanya's name in the japanese version is actually Maron, which is the japanese name for Malon. I like to imagine Malon was named after this horse god, as Epona's name actually comes from a celtic goddess of horses, so for Malon's name to come from an in-game horse deity seems like a cool idea.

There are holes in the theory, like the only partial truth about its role helping you leave the wasteland. Though it claims it will only show you to the spirit temple, in actuality, they really mean that their post is at the stone hut, so it can not know when you wish to return, as it waits on the other end. If for whatever reason the player does not see the storm flags indicating the end of the tour, Link can continue to follow the guide *STRAIGHT* back to the stone hut before the spirit realizes the mistake and begins the route again. Also random trivia, you do not need the lens of truth to make it past the second trial. There are even videos on youtube of people memorizing the route and following it without the spirit guide, though the ones ive seen are on the N64 version by utilizing a combination of textures as landmarks and the minimap as a guide.

Im sure this has already been suggested by now, but I feel that the desert ghost could be someone who died after getting lost - the ghost version of what happens in the Lost Woods. The plaque could be a warning from ppl who had previously gone through the desert with - and then without - the help of this ghost. Or maybe they were just a regular ghost, but bound to serve the desert - but is using a hole in the wording to only help one. "You shall guide any new travelers through the desert", since you're technically not a new traveler when you're heading back. I know this is a month old, but I hope you keep making these videos, they're really interesting

Wouldn't surprise me if Fanadi *does* serve the royal family "from the shadows" - or more accurately, hidden in plain sight. Collecting reports, dispatching orders, listening for gossip and confessions, planting ideas into the general populace, providing supplies and shelter when needed - instead of being a generic "field agent", she runs a permanent outpost, with the fortune-telling business being a convenient cover.

if there was 10+ hour documentary of LOZ and the history of it entirely I'd watch it all, this series has been a big inspiration to me for my own original series, helping me learn about character development and even story telling. Not saying my series at all resembles LOZ of course though, I'd hate to be that kind of person who makes something they claim as "original" and then have it basically like the zelda series lol

Fanadi does help the royal family. She tells Link where to go next. When he finishes all the temples, he saves Hyrule.

A video I'd like you to do one day is answer the question, "How many races or communities have been created that dwelt in the sky above Hyrule?" Skyloft, of course, was the first (I think anyways), but there was one in TP and the Wind Tribe you mention in the video. Surely there's a fantastic wealth of history and lore to explore on this topic?
@mindsight97324 жыл бұрын
Skyloftians (1) Loftwings(2), Levias, Batreaux, Beedle, Wind Tribe(3), Oocca (4). Note sky regions are often refered to as Heavens in english, and if we keep that translation where it's used not only literally but also mythically/spiritually, Lokomo Tribe(5), Spirits of Good(6), and The 3 Goddesses. Aswell as 2 Towers relating to Heaven(s), Majora's Mask's Stone Tower dungeon, and Oracle of Ages' tower/lighthouse converted/subverted into a tower of Babble.

Nicholas Penning Yeah, it’s hard for me not to make a connection between all of them. I’d very much like to get a full video essay on the topic :D

Possible theory: Fanadi IS a Sheikah and IS working for the royal family. She was just employed by them to help the next hero by means of fortune telling.

I mean, I can't help but think the desert guide was always just that. A desert guide. The Haunted Wasteland is treacherous terrain, perhaps one day a leever or some other obstacle in the desert got him, and he realized that if he was gone, no one would be able to cross without his knowledge. So he stays forever at the point where none can cross without him, forever waiting until he's needed.

Fun fact : In the French version of the Minish Cap, the Minish themselves speak backward French, so Fanadi also seems to speak Minish herself when she sees the future, in regard to the translation of course.

In the original Japanese the Horse God isn't gendered and it's name is actually the same as Malon's. It's basically a deified Malon.

I'm thinking that the fact the Poe of the Desert wasteland only can be seen by the Shiekah Eye of Truth could hint at the Poe being a dead Shiekah, going off some long-ago-made promise that a Hero of Legend would need to find the Spirit Temple some day, and was waiting there to aid them. Poe's usually manifest themselves plainly to anyone they want to attack, but hiding yourself through the Lens of Truth...that could suggest someone waiting for a friend of the Royal Family. Anyone else wanna add to this theory? I'd love other input!
