I like what Ikkyu Sojun said. "Just eat, sleep and shit. that's all you have to do. I agree somewhat with his statement. But I do think we have a way to evaluate our progress in understanding the awakening process leading to the experience called enlightenment. I think by doing meditation and retreats over a long period of time, or even a short period of time, you will have kensho or awakening experiences. And these experiences will work on your psyche to question everything, your identity, and how you view birth and death. These awakening experiences should open you up to direct experience that you are not separate from what you observe. It should make you a more open, kind, and loving individual. Especially, loving everything unconditionally. You should come to the realization that accepting everything be it good or bad, is the way forward. That's how you will know to evaluate your progress.

Dear Zen Master Bon Yeon what a treat to see and hear your wonderful clear teaching. I was just out surfing youtube and came upon this by chance. I'm a member of EGZC in Berkeley.

One more thing. And I hope this will help you in your own practice of Zen. I will explain an awakening experience I had a few years ago while in a deep jhana state of absolute samadhi mediation. I remember the experience because when it happened. And it happened suddenly. Mind and body drop off. And drop off consciously. I never laughed so hard. Because I couldn't believe it. But the experience was just the beginning because its the after affects which work on your identity and your idea of what consciousness is. I learned not to take these experiences seriously. Its just the beginning of the journey. I hope this helps.

You are right that is not enlightenment. It's sad that these so called Zen masters are teaching a concept that is incorrect, and that a she is teaching the concept totally unaware she is using her discursive mind. I don't know what enlightenment is. But not knowing is the key. As D.T. Suzuki explained its a process that begins with a turning about in the deepest seat of consciousness. And if it happens it will happen suddenly and unexpectedly. It may not even happen in your lifetime, however, just do the practice, and do not think of attaining anything. Enlightenment will never be explained in words and concepts, or by the discursive mind.

Anyone wants to be enlightened ? Theres a master that teaches how to achieve enlightenment. In simple and practice steps. We are in a new era folks. It is called the soul light era. And in this era, the soul is the boss.. more and more people is returning to the Tao. The Divine.

Enlightenment can not be taught by anyone else! One has to realize that he is already enlightened so there is no need to search for it! No one can give you that realization😇🙏

R.K. that which is BS comes from the mind which says it. When some people have too much in their head, they are unable to listen and realize others' teachings.
