Good videos. We all do the same projects on these older boats. Fun to have someone film them. I completely replaced my waste tank simply because it had 40 year old crap in it and I just wanted a fresh start. I cleaned my water tanks with the Five Star cleaners and sanitizers like PBW and Star San used for cleaning beer making vats. And like everyone else, completely replaced all the hoses and motors that no longer worked (many are rebuildable). Used expensive non-permiable hoses for sanitation. I like clear reinforced hose for water, but many use red and blue for hot and cold water. Wiring ends up replacing everything with real marine grade tinned wire and heavier gauges. But the bones of your boat is solid. You will enjoy the results. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks Bob! We're really enjoying the process of bringing this old boat back to life, while we're certainly not re-inventing the wheel here, doing these projects has been a great way to get to know our boat inside and out. We're very much looking forward to getting out on the water and having some adventures. Cheers Mate and thanks for watching!

We’re falling into the flow of this boat project thing! However re-freshing our fresh water system was the last project standing between us and the salty seas! We’re finally ready to cast the lines! Thank you for being on this journey with us! Love you all, let’s set sail!!!

Isn’t it amazing how everything in the boat fits just so! Good food is important to keep the spirits up. So is the celebratory beer. The before and after cleaning jobs are so gratifying. So is your humor! There must not be any mold left🤞. Love your videos!

It's a real jigsaw puzzle! Love how compact everything is, makes a tiny space feel so much more spacious. We're in a constant battle with the mold here in the PNW, but we've got it under control now at least!

Hi Guys, making the old new again, fantastic job. Yes James I agree they hang stuff in mid air and then build around it and that stuff always needs maintenance. Question, when can Allison come make lunch at my place? I like the idea of a foot pump. To easy to use your water with an electric pump and then run out. Just wondering have you thought about how to keep the water tanks and associated lines clean? If not maybe look at how they keep the beer lines clean at the pub and I don't mean put beer through your lines now and then either, LOL. See ya next week.

Lots of scrubbing to get that ol’ boat cleaned up but the video evidence shows that no fibre glass was injured by means of sanding in the making of this episode 😂

Great job doing all the cleaning! So fresh! What did you use to clean the inside of the hull?
@AllisonandJamesSailing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sarah! It's a big job that never ends! haha We use TSP (degreaser) for the terrible areas inside the hull that haven't been cleaned in a while including our bilge. And regularly wipe all surfaces down with hydrogen peroxide and/or diluted vinegar to keep all the gross stuff from coming back. Mold is a big issue in these climates, so we try and do a deep clean at least weekly!

Another chap whose channel I watch uses a product called Krud Kutter for cleaning. He is based in Maine. It may pay to try to find some

how are you evacuating the dirty scrub water from all the compartments you're cleaning? Just by rags or a pump or is a small wet-vac worth the investment?
@AllisonandJamesSailing8 ай бұрын
There’s the bilge pump, but yep a small wet vac! It’s worth it’s weight in gold, especially when you’re projecting.

30ft is not a little boat.
@AllisonandJamesSailing2 жыл бұрын
Size is all in the eyes of the beholder. It sure feels like a big boat to us but by today’s modern and ever increasing yacht size standards, 30ft is still pretty little. Funnily enough we are commonly the smallest boat in the anchorage.
@mrofnocnon2 жыл бұрын
@@AllisonandJamesSailing I had a Catalina 27, very similar in many respects to the 30. However the 30 is huge internally compared to mine. I wish you every success in your journeys.
@AllisonandJamesSailing2 жыл бұрын
Cool! We looked at smaller Catalina's but Allison couldn't stand up in them so we went with the smallest size that she could! The 30 does feel much bigger internally. Thanks Ronald! What are you sailing these days?

@@AllisonandJamesSailing Nothing at the moment, still looking around. Perhaps a 30ft similar to yours, I'm not sure yet.
