[spoilers ahead] + this whole thread I think Mike whispers it @3:15 (that they all need to be together) as they've tried it out just the two of them (art & tash, tash & pat) separately, felt something missing and it didn't work out... so basically they ended up being a throuple (co-dependant on each other) as thats the only way their relationship could work out... also another point I want to make, I personally thought that the final match (specifically the last act/scene) you can see that the tennis match mirrors the threesome scene where art and pat are going at it (kissing/playing tennis) and tashi is watching and enjoying it (the kissing/match) at the end... the grins/hug from the boys and tashis cheering at the end solidified that the spark is back in their relationship AND ALSO "TENNIS"

Lol I don't usually ask questions pertaining films that I plan on watching but I would like to know, since it was mentioned in this video, do you agree w/Art & the interviewer that Patrick wasn't actually 'in love' with Tashi? I also saw this take from one reviewer who actually went further by declaring that the boys weren't actually in love with Tashi but one another, but they all just used one another. 😬 I'd like to know your take on this, of you don't mind. :)
@AG.anon18 ай бұрын
@@robinvolpi of course I don't mind, I love talking lol!! I think they both are in love with Tashi (in different ways tho... and thats why some might argue that one does love her but the other doesn't.. people can love the same person in different ways guys cause they're both different people lol) but also have unresolved history with each other (bicurious and romantic feelings for one another) and kept trying to make the other jealous (the cherros scene shows that and also the sauna scene).. in Art and Tashi's marriage, their bedroom scenes always felt like it was missing something (or someone) and felt incomplete but otherwise their marriage was perfect imo. I think all three of the characters had similar dynamics sexually to the character in the movie "Angel Sex", give it a watch and hope that helps!
@annalisamistretta52808 ай бұрын
@@robinvolpi I know you're not asking me lol, but I saw the movie yesterday and I would say that without spoiling, Patrick is an asshole and he makes it known that he's hyperaware of it. I don't really think he was in love with her in my opinion and I think he just loved how talented she was. I do think Art was in love with her though and that's why he probably didn't feel bad about how things played out. Also in terms of how the movie unfolded **SPOILERS AHEAD** It was clear from the first time Tashi met the boys that she was more into Art. She would always make eye contact with him first when the two boys were standing next to each other. Whether it was at the party, the hotel room floor, or the bed, she was always looking at him first. She made it clear that she liked that he was focusing on an education as well as a career instead of aiming to go pro and putting school past him. At the beginning of the movie, she said she wanted to watch some good tennis and that's what happened at the end of the movie, hence why she screamed. At the end of the day though, I think Tashi loved tennis more than she could ever love a man.
@AG.anon18 ай бұрын
@@annalisamistretta5280 I definitely think Pat and Tashi love Art more than one another but also have this opposite attraction/lust/ambition (which are all still strong feelings) for one another. Art 100% loves Tashi but felt like their marriage was incomplete as Pat wasn't in it (and so did Tashi cause you know what she ended up doing) and you could tell he still wanted Pat but was in denial about his feelings and cruel to him in the sauna scene and likewise Pat wanted to make him jealous and get a rise out of him (hence the tennis match)... also if it was all just to watch good tennis for Tashi then [*more spoilers lol*] she wouldn't have had sex with Pat and somewhat implied with her argument with Art that if he lost the game he would lose her (implying that she would coach pat instead), you know? it would've just been business and no pleasure for her decision to coach Pat but it wasn't :)

@gd-rm57298 ай бұрын
SPOILER ALERT!!! i'm sorry but it still wasn't Art's fault to me. even though his intention was to create discord between patrick and tashi, HE STILL TOLD THE UNFILTERED TRUTH!! We knew tashi didn't love patrick (NOR art) and all patrick wanted to do is f%ck with her because he loved the chemistry that they had and the way it was making his life a bit more complete bc she was everything he's not (put together, successful, having ambitions, winner mindset, etc.). He loved these things ABOUT her, not HER. Art always loved her and always wanted to be with her. Tashi loves the submission he provides and even though she won't admit it, she loves the love he's giving her. And she can have control over him. But she does NOT love HIM. I would say it all really started because, Art and Patrick's relationship was already toxic (because what type of friends go after the same girl TOGETHER???), but Tashi saw the flaw and played with it. She kept saying that she didn't wanna be a homewrecker, which she KNEW she would be!!! And SHE'S the one that started to put them against each other ("if you win this i'll give you this"). So yeah, you could also say that, the boys put themselves in that situation but SHE was the real manipulator. And it all started because of her.
@nataliajimenez18708 ай бұрын
Art was the one that chased after Tashi after her injury, and even before when he was instigating a Tashi and Patrick breakup. Then he asked her to become his coach and then asking her to marry him, convincing her by promising to let her shape him. He knew he didn't satisfy her sexually, but instead of addressing those issues with a sex therapist, he expected Tashi to just continue living a sexually unfulfilled life because he brought money and wealth. Anyway, a solution that was not presented is Tashi divorcing Art and becoming a coach of another hungry prospect. She showed that she could turn an average player into a champion. And if she divorces she can fuck anyone she wants without the guilt of cheating on a spouse that doesn't satisfy her. But I agree with you that Patrick was just an undisciplined mess when he was dating Tashi and Tashi was attracted to him because she needed someone that would not roll over and could challenge her. He also was not very considerate of Tashi and definitely their fight and his absence at the game sent her to a space that made the injury more likely
@mossicely8 ай бұрын
Spoilers I'm glad you saw it similarly, I don't think the rest of the movie and what we learn about their characters gives us any reason to think that Art somehow broke them up, their break up was inevitable. Some might argue she was just saying things defensively and didn't mean it, but I think there's some truth that Tashi says in that moment in the cafeteria--that to her Patrick was basically a casual thing, and Patrick would have eventually learned that anyways. They were young and in college, it's very likely the same events would have happened later on and she still would have been injured even if Art just let it come up naturally. The problem was Art was insecure and chasing after both of them, so he did a bad thing because he wanted the qualities he saw in her to be his. Tashi doesn't seem to love people in the same way that she loves tennis and throughout the movie we see her grief over the loss of her greatest passion. She lives through both of the boys with her passion for tennis, almost like she's looking for a life raft to cling to. As soon as she no longer begins to see Art as a potential winner, what does she do? She suddenly is more open to Patrick again despite the disdain she holds for him. Which in some ways ways isn't warranted, he was right in their argument in my opinion that she doesn't see him on her level, but I think she has a strong personality and ego and she was hurt, so she holds it against him and blames him for her injury. She doesn't want to cheat, she also doesn't want to lose Art, but her feelings towards Patrick are complicated and she will do anything to keep her dream alive. There's some affection there, but the reality is that she doesn't want to lose Art like a derby gambler doesn't want to lose their fastest racing horse. I agree with you that she also likes the security she feels from Art, not him as a person, but I don't know if I would go as far as to say Art truly loves her either. In the end when Art learns that she cheated on him he's pissed and begins to lose it. I don't think that Art ever had real love for Tashi, I think it was an infatuation with her representing everything that he wants that was suddenly shattered in that moment of betrayal. He was in love with the idea of her being this gorgeous talent who was interested in him just as much as she was in love with the idea of him finding the glory that she felt she was cheated from. My understanding was that he enjoyed tennis when he was younger but no longer enjoyed it when he got older, specifically once he was with Tashi. I think a large part of that had to do with the codependency and the pressure that was put on him to perform. Tennis was no longer just a game, and he felt the weight of needing to carry Tashi's dreams when she was far more invested into it than he was. It affected his self worth pretty deeply every time he lost, and made him even want to retire early. From my perspective, that last scene we see is him breaking down the hold she has over him. He's finally just playing for him again, just playing a game of tennis like he was back when he was younger. He regained some form of confidence and control, which was what he needed to actually win. Ironically, Patrick was likely trying to rile him up through the hand symbol so that he could win (he decided not to throw for Tashi), but he unknowingly caused his own loss. The truth was that Art had become better than Patrick in all those years playing against better players, he just was mentally unable to perform because he was feeling suffocated by the woman he was infatuated with. Then the roles were suddenly reversed, because now Tashi had become his fan once she saw him regain his ability to perform. To her, that was her dream of glory coming alive again, there's even the parallel of her overcoming her injury through him overcoming the person who she blames her injury on. But the irony is that by that point it's questionable in what form their relationship would continue. The ending also leaves much of this up for interpretation, that's just how I see it.

ion need to watch it again😭😭 art vandalized the outside of the house & unlocked & left the door open sure but while they were content & still together, they weren’t in love w each other. tashi was all abt tennis, she may have felt for patrick, & later art, but her one & only love was tennis. & i think patrick loved what winning tashi meant. in the beginning patrick knew of her first yeah, but he was just attracted to her physically she was “hot”, he wanted her to come to their hotel room. i think art fell in love w her at first sight. when they were in the hotel room, patrick jumped at the chance to embarrass art in front of tashi multiple times. patrick was the ladies man, patrick was the one that was better at tennis, patrick was that one that still had a gf when he “won” tashi duncan. art always came in second against patrick & when it finally came to something he wanted/needed he couldn’t let that go anymore. so yeah he meddled in their relationship when they were 19 but tashi’s fight with patrick was abt her emotional unavailability & surface level conversations abt tennis. that fight would’ve happened regardless at any time & she could’ve screwed up any match & gotten injured. art was there for tashi after, yeah he took his chance, but tashi let him. ion think tashi loved either of them but i think she cared for art more. however he commitment to art was conditional & he knew it, he loved her & tried to do everything he could to keep her. in the “it doesn’t matter” scene it’s very apparent that art knows where he stands w tashi where tennis is concerned & he’s constantly fighting for tennis bc having tennis is having tashi. yet her & patrick continuously & selfishly acted on their attraction w each other bc of the voids they were filling. & they did that in their grown ages of 25-31, so just bc art told both of them the truth they weren’t considering since patrick was on the road anyway in their yr of a relationship when they were 19, doesn’t mean he’s the bad guy.

I've been obsessed with Dear Evan Hansen for years and I can't believe I'm just jumping the Mike Faist train. He's amazing! I've loved Josh O'Connor's work since the release of God's Own Country. So glad he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. Zendaya is Zendaya. No explanation needed for my love for her.

That’s what I’ve found baffling, that most reactors/reviewers see and describe Art “as the good guy”, and I think “did we not watch the same movie?”. He was the catalyst and a snake, a horrible friend to both of them. He planted the discord seed that led to the fight. Then Tashi goes out there angry, her bf is not there at an important moment as a result of this fight, incited by Art. But Art gets to be the “nice guy” who is actually there to support her through this moment. He got her, through sleazy means. How is this being a nice guy?

Yeah, although I didn’t like Art as a person, he didn’t deserve to be cheated on. And their daughter definitely didn’t deserve for her mom to do that.

I think the thing that really made me turn against Art was when the injury happened and Patrick tried to come into the treatment room to comfort her and he told Patrick to go away (and then presumably never spoke to him ever again after that). Like he saw an opportunity to break them up once and for all and went for it, slimy move imo
@shelbydixon74657 ай бұрын
@@margaritakmpbut Tashi was also asking Pat to leave the room…so I felt like Art asking Pat to leave was his way of backing her up and respecting her because Pat certainly wasn’t respecting her in that moment.

Oh please, Art threw away 12 years of friendship like it was nothing, like it meant nothing, for what? A change to have Tashi for himself? After that, Patrick didn't own him anything

Art is definetly still the best one in terms of morality. Sure he did that thing in college but patrick said "i like her" not "i love her" which if he had kept that sentiment in previous conversations between the two could have signaled to art that he didn't actually love tish and when tish and art got married she was actively manipulating him. She never loved him she was just vicariously living out her failed dream through him but he actually really loved her and you can *tell*. Long story short the ending is ambiguos but i hope they got divorced and art got custody of lily

funniest thing about this video is mike and the interviewer being on the same page lmao, like when they both said art wasn't lying when he said patrick wasn't in love with tashi (and they're right, if patrick is in love with someone it's art, not tashi)

They cannot have it all, Tashi wanted to be with a winner hence the whole I'll give my number to the one who wins but Patrick didn't wanted to improve, she gives him advice and he ignores it and then says shitty stuff to her, leaves her crying and doesn't support her the day of her match. The relationship was doomed from the begging it was just sexual.
@masoncharles34987 ай бұрын
What i was hoping would happen was that considering that Tashi came in the middle of them and she was only trying to be Art's coach if he was successful, was to do a plot twist at the end and they both drop her and then they would be together 😭😭🤣🤣
