Great video Rob! All the possibilities! After playing drum kits for 40+ years I am ready to settle down with the Zen for smaller coffee shop gigs. Your video was really informative. I have alot to learn! Keep up the great work!

cool, Ed O'Neill plays the Zendrum. seriously though, I never even heard of the Zendrum till today great video. Nice custom features you've added. I knew Roland made electric sets with pads but never knew something like this existed. Since this was uploaded 4 years ago I doubt you will even see this comment but I will check and see if you have any newer videos with better audio captured. Seriously cool drum, and great playing style to make it sound like you were playing on a full size set.

open the video with playing the instrument. the lay person on youtube is gonna think "gee that looks like a cool instrument! what does it sound like?" when you bombard viewers with jargon and useless information they probably won't even finish the video. after they're impressed with your skill, then you can say anything you want and the viewer won't care.
@apzzpa9 жыл бұрын
Nathan Robb You have good point but I wouldn't say the information is useless. The more you know about how MIDI works the more possibilities of sounds you can create

Your playing is good, so is your technique and the way you explain it. But for me it just can't be drumming... I mean where is the pleasure of beating the crap out of a snare and feeling the deep low end of a bass drum ??? Anyway it's still a good vid you may need to work a bit on the audio recording. Maybe one day we could see you behind a real kit ;)
@TheMichaelseymour12 жыл бұрын
yep...you better believe it ! Our brains do too - i think . Still ... as backward as we are ...we have FREE health care for ALL citizens . Sadly ...i know your countrymen have no such luck ...they are not as mobile as your good self - playing drums ....keeps you fit ...but ,er, ...not that kit though ! Maybe you will develop "super thumbs " .... anyway , its obvious you must play an acoustic kit -because your bloody good ! B.t.w -its 1.15 pm in melb - whats your time ,CHEERS!
@Rickzenbackzer8 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand the point of this because if you're playing live you want an actual drum kit not samples from a PA, and if you're recording you want an actual drum kit too....
@doncolga088 жыл бұрын
+Gonk Live drums can certainly be great, but sampled can absolutely be great as well. Just another means to an end. I saw a band with one of these triggering a late 80's drum module and the music was amazing. Audience loved it.
@Rickzenbackzer8 жыл бұрын
+doncolga08 Actually yeah i can imagine it being very good for 80s type drums and more electronic music where the drums are samples anyway.
@Shred_The_Weapon8 жыл бұрын
+Gonk To me, this sort of controller means that the drummer is able to get out from behind the kit and actually perform. If I hadn't switched from drums to guitar myself, I would be using a Zen drum of this sort today. Especially after having learned about Futureman. Guys/gals like Ringo, Don Henley, Phil Collins, Nigel Olsson, Karen Carpenter, Micky Dolenz (yes he learned to really play), Levon Helm and Dennis Wilson who could sing and keep the beat at the same time have always rocked my world. If the singing comes first, this is what I would recommend to them.
@dzre20878 жыл бұрын
+Gonk a SMART drummer -- who tours or busks or gigs -- does NOT carry some large stupid kit. Yes, a real kit is great, but DUMB AS SHIT in a zillion situations. (What takes up most of a tour van or car? DUMB BIG DRUMS.)

+DerekHartley I wasn't aware that proper compression techniques were discovered within the last 4 years...
@DerekHartley8 жыл бұрын
I didn't say they were either, but KZbin was pretty awful back then again. Most audio issues on KZbin videos are down to the compression they used back in the day.

@dzre20878 жыл бұрын
+58belvedere WE SMART PEOPLE don't use Big Stupid Drum Kits. Takes forever to set up. (My roland drumpad takes literally 15 SECONDS to set up. 3 seconds to break down.) If you TOUR, a Big Drum Kit is even dumber (unless you're rich and have huge vehicles). NOT EFFICIENT. Yes, Big Drum Kits are great in a zillion ways, but INEFFICIENT in most ways. (This guy can play on any SMALL stage with any number of musicians. He can play with musicians in a tiny bedroom or practice. Big Drums CANNOT.)
