What a lovely, charming video about a lovely charming camera .... I just bought one because I grew up with one. Simple to use... My Dad bought hjis in the 80s for that reason of thrift, it was the one on the market in Australia under a hundred dollars. This video was worth a subscribe for sure.

Thanks for the video. I found the same camera in a thrift store and bought it. The meter is not working but the shutter and the lens appear to be in good working condition. Mine has that black line you were talking about and I thought it could ruin the pictures, but your video really helped me.

I have black '79 Olympic copy that I originally bought for the lens. The camera has lots of character because of the brassing on corners of the severe architectural lines of its design. You inspired me to take it out, run a roll of film through and have a go with it.

That is identical, in every way, to the Zenit EM my Dad have to me in 1980. He bought it new in 1979 and upgraded to an Olympus OM1n in 1980. It was my first "proper" camera and I learned a great deal about exposure and composition using it. Happy days!

Just bought a '76 Olympic Zenit, and am yet to take it out - I'm watching a fair few videos to help me learn to operate the camera first, before running any film through it. I just love the look, the feel, and the clunkiness of the camera - it is something wonderfully Soviet.

Great old workhorse. Got my Zenit B (with a separate exposure meter) in 1973 for around 22 quid. I still use a version of the lens - the Helios F2 / 58mm on my modern cameras in Manual mode. Like most vintage lenses, it peaks for sharpness at f5.6 or f8. Background blur or bokeh is famously swirly.

Great video! I got this camera 4-5 months ago and recently started to shoot with it. So far I've complete devastated two rolls of film :D It's very hard for me to remember to check the meter and then adjust the settings. Also the rewinding, as you mentioned, is a bit clumsy, and this damn focus, but overall is great camera, I really love it. Now my quest is to get every Moscow 80 Olympics branded camera I can.

I've just bought one. I'm a sucker for old USSR tech. I just had to. Thankfully for me, there's a few great ones floating about at really good prices, I guess a lot of people don't wanna buy Russian tech nowadays

I have seen few videos explaining that you need to wind on before changing the shutter speed and the explaination that if you don't, it kills the camera. However, no-one seems to have explained in what way it kills the camera. Does it move the shutter speed out of sync with the dial or does it kill the shutter? How can you tell if this has happened if you buy one on the used market? Thank you for the videos, I have enjoyed your content.

Hi. I've got this camera and can not fit the lens back on. Feels like the little pin at the back of the lens is catching when tightening.. any advice?

The black line often happens, a think it was a problem with the adhesive.

How can I check before buy if it is not damaged by shutter speed set first/playing shutter speed button?
@beforedigital
@beforedigital 3 жыл бұрын
A visual check by taking the lens off and visually checking that shutter fires without a gap in the curtains of the shutter. Normally if the shutter has been damaged the shutter will just not fire. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Andy
