My car had starting issues and wouldn't idle correctly until she had fully warmed up. I'm not an carburetor expert but took it apart for cleaning and adjustments. My car is a 1980 Renault 4 GTL

Hello Joe instructions, did not work. I think when you put the wire in the throttle butterfly, the choke must be open, not closed?

Thanks Anthony, I know that I said that the choke should be closed, but it actually doesn't make any difference when you first set the throttle butterfly gap. The choke flap only has to be closed when starting cold. Of course when you screw in the idle speed screw to make the engine turn over faster, the throttle butterfly gap will also open a little more. What is really important is the idle mixture screw which is usually set at about 3 turns outwards. Remember this screw only sets the mixture for idle, it has nothing to do with the running of the engine when you're driving. Good luck!

Bonjour Jean, Si vos bougies d’allumage sont noires, alors votre mélange est trop riche. Rappelez-vous, la vis de mélange sur le carb est seulement pour quand la voiture est au ralenti. Ma vis est fixée à un tour vers l’extérieur. Je pense que vous devriez vérifier le papillon au sommet du carbu. Lorsque le bouton d’étranglement (Choke en Anglais) est fermé et le moteur est en marche, ce papillon doit être complètement ouvert. Autre sage, vous utiliserez plus de carburant et moins d’air. J'espere j'ai vous aider

Assif, I get about 15 km per liter. If your spark plugs are black then your mixture is too rich. Have a look at the top of your carb and make sure that the choke flap is open completely. If it is half closed you are using more fuel and there is not enough air going in. Let me know if you need more help

Assif, that seems OK, now push in your choke then take off the air filter from the top of the carb and look at the position of the choke flap. It should be in the perpendicular position (straight up) so you can see down the opening of the carb. If you pull your choke out when you start your car, then this flap will close.
