Mark, as a retired senior, I am not likely to built a kit plane at this point in my life. However, I will watch this build every step of the way at least once and probably several times. I am just one of thousands who will do the same thing. I watch because I love to build things and I watch you because you do it the way I would do it. Although I quit private flying in 1974, it is still a passion and so I enjoy the end result as well. I suspect a large part of your audience is a lot like me. Maybe a little younger. Keep us in your minds eye as well :-)

On my build, one thing I did at the start was to section off and number all the shelving. Then mark on the inventory sheet the shelf number where I placed the parts. It saved me a whole bunch of time later to find the parts, as you can imagine. Cheers from Winnipeg.

You could assign your shelves and other storage areas location codes and then put the location code on the inventory sheets as you store the parts. Then when you're looking for that part a year later you should be able to find it. Store everything like a parts warehouse.

@@KitplaneEnthusiast I had build a Moni Motor Glider many years ago when family commitments clashed. For me I like an all metal because like you it's much easier to work with. My hobby is opal mining in outback Australia and with some interesting place to go. The STOL feature of the Super Duty does apperal to me mainly because of the places I want go too. After watching many bush plane youtube video's the Super Duty looks like the one I would enjoy building. The fact that you are now building your second Zenith Aircraft speaks highly for your appreciation of this homebuilt kit. I will be watching you with the same interest in your build for the next 12 months. I good question that many of your followers might want to ask is why did you not build a super duty for your first one and why are you doing this for the second time. I think I know your answer and only hope that Zenith are looking after you. Love your perfectionism but must drive you a little crazy but I would not have any hesitation in buying any one of your homebuilt aircrafts. Keep safe and keep going. Cheers from Oz.

@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
No smoke system on this airplane. For one, it's not an aerobatic airplane so I won't be doing any loops and rolls, and two, I'm building it as a back-country bush plane and adding the weight of a smoke tank and it's systems is counter-productive for STOL.

Do you have any specific mods in mind prior to building? Things like extra access panels or things that don't come with the kit that you've already decided you want to add? I want to build the exact same kit, and leaning towards the Yamaha Apex that Steve Henry has in his Highlander for the engine choice. Maybe if UL comes out with their direct drive 260hp, I may entertain that as well. Thanks for the videos, I love the content!!
@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure yet. I won't know until I take a good look at the fuselage and see where the pulleys are located and if any additional access doors are needed.

I saw a pre build fuselage piece, did you order that part prebuilt or is that how the kit comes ?
@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
I was surprised to see that much prebuilt. I called and asked Zenith about it and learned that the SD fuselages are made by Zenair in Canada. They were building this part of the fuselage on kits both as a test of their manufacturing process and as sort of a promotion thing. I guess only a certain number of kits will ship like this and then they will start arriving un-built.

Heard you say that your workbench was 14 feet. Can the superduty be built on a 12 foot workbench?
@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
My workbench is 14 feet because I already had a 6 foot bench, and since I had to make it longer, I just built it 8" since I could get a 4 x 8 sheet of wood for the top. I'm sure 12 feet would work just fine.

How Much difference is there between the Super Cruzer and The Super Duty, as far as weight Power and Speeds? Is it worth building a second Zenith for the Differences they have? Does it all come down to what you want to do with the plane?
@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
The Cruzer actually makes a good bush plane if you add the bush tires. But it doesn't have quite the STOL capability or the payload of the Super Duty. I do think the SD will be a better plane for the type of STOL flying I want to do.
@ahmedfaraz72613 жыл бұрын
How long does it take to build this kit?
@KitplaneEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Only you can answer that. Let's say it takes 2,000 hours to build. Divide it up into how many hours per day you can work on it and that will give you an idea.
@hongshi82514 жыл бұрын
Did you install an autopilot? Comment, the beard is interesting. The only con about your build that stuck with me was that the throttle was kind of weak and bends in the panel. Did you correct this? Looking forward to seeing you practicing your STOL skills. A nice comfortable grass field with good approaches, I bet you could match a regular 750 STOL or very very close.
@KitplaneEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын
That's true about the throttle-I don't like that either. If I were to do it over, I would rivet a stiffener in the panel behind the throttle so that it feels more solid. I will definitely be doing this on the Super Duty.
