Zenith Defy Revival Shadow: Modern Noir, Vintage Design

The Zenith Defy Revival was initially born as a tribute to the original Defy born in 1969. Years after its release, Gerald Genta would go on to initiate an octaganol watch design craze and many today poke holes in modern homage designs that rest a bit too much on these laurels. But, this original Defy was born before these designs, and its distinct look is the result of an octagonal case with a fourteen-sided bezel - nicknamed upon its introduction the ‘bank vault’.
The modern Defy Revival, for a time, was limited to configurations that pulled directly from the archives with nearly 1:1 recreations. This Defy Revival Shadow, however, is the first within the collection to inject more of a modern feel.

Gorgeous watch. I have one of the original watches and it still keeps great time and is in amazing condition - I love the watch and it fits perfectly on a 6.75 inch/17 wrist.

I’ve got a Chronomaster Revival. The ladder bracelet isn’t for everyone, but it surprised me. When my watch arrived I assumed it would be swapped out immediately. They wear very comfortably, they very much fit the vintage aesthetic. The Defy Revival is already a watch that isn’t going to have particularly broad appeal, the bracelet is right there en pointe.

Not a big fan of the Zenith ladder bracelets. Other than that the watch looks stellar. It was a good choice to stray away from the vibtage looks to create something decidedly modern

I think this is my favorite variant of the Defy Revival. But if Zenith were going for a more modern feel here, why use faux-patina? It would of been better without it. Seems overpriced too. But that’s par for the course nowadays with mid-tier Swiss brands unfortunately 🤷‍♂️

Here’s the deal, it’s simply another color choice. It wouldn’t have been better without it. If you frame it within the perspective they are trying to fool people, then label it fauxtina, that’s simply not the case.
