Zenith Pierburg Stromberg 175CD2SE Carburetors From Triumph, Volvo, Jaguar , MG and go on. This is a simple rebuild video with a kit from Burlen in the UK. Every step is explained in a simple way.
These carburetors are pretty easy if you understand how they work. Follow the steps in the video and you will have a nice working carburetor for your own car!
Something i wand to add about the temperature compensator. This metal strip wich is operated by the carburetor body's temperature was closed in this video. Like i say, Many people i know make sure they are shut and don't use them anymore. If you do wand it to work. Throw it into a bucket of 20 degree celcius water and adjust it till it opens.

What about "restoration" od 240? It's end like other car projects?

Nope, It didn't end. But making money came first. then i had the chance to sell my boat project and buy my dream car. A 1969 volvo amazon. Then that car had a broken engine Twice wich ate up my 240 budget again. The good old 240 is still in my shop. The amazon engine is out for a head rebuild. I'm getting a 144 from a customer in next couple of weeks. After that it's Fixing the amazon and then 1000% on the 240.

I think you forgot to add that getting the long needle out of the large vacuum piston, it is not enough to only undo the small dropped in screw on the side, but also another screw inside and at the bottom of the long tube, I was fighting with it like crazy and couldn't understand why the needle wouldn't just slide out like you showed!!! Than I found out in another video....

Hi mate, I have explained clearly in the video that there are more than one version of this carb. And the one in my video is the one with the solid needle so it does not have the screw. 👍 The screw you are talking about is the needle adjustment wich some carburettors might have. But many don't have them. If you don't have them and you wand to get the car richer you need to press the yet down wich i also showed with my workshop press 😄👍 if you do have the adjustment, you can alter how much fuel comes out the yet by turning that needle higher up in the carb wich offcourse will free up the yet more when running at idle. I hope this explains it.

@@RollinHeritage - thanks and very sorry as that little detail must have totally escaped me, I guess there were so many new facts to me I just didn't digest them properly. This carb I was checking is a reserve one I have at home (unrestored) and God only knows where it comes from, so hope the one sitting in the car is the same one you have (as its the same car model year), so I won't need to procure extra tools for one single use, thanks again!!!👍👍👍

Very well done! These horisontal carburetors seem to be a lot better design than the downdraft carburetors the early Amazons came with. After two years, countless hours and multiple other people involved, I have declared it to be impossible to rebuild. Have to experiment with making an adapter to fit one of these Stromberg or SU carburetors.

Hi! Thanks for the comment! You mean those downdraft carbs from the B18 engines? You can take a intake manifold from a B20 and put a stromberg on your b18 without much problems. Exhaust manifold is the same and they are pretty common. Just look out if they are cracked since that happens to all of them..

My Amazon has a B16, unfortunately. But I do appreciate the suggestion. I have been a bit unlucky with what engine my Amazon has. :-) While I figure something out I'm looking forward to your next videos. Very nice and thorough work done so far on your channel!

Great video man! I am thinking of changing to a stromberg cd3, would that be interchangeable between the cd2 and is it better or worse than the cd2. All I know is that it’s a pain to tune.

@@RollinHeritage okay! I am probably going to try it. I have a old Volvo duett from 67, with a b20 motor inside. It’s my 2nd carburetor lol. Love how over engineered everything is.

Hi! Thanks voor je mega uitgebreide uitleg! Heb een jaguar met dezelfde carburateurs, en bij beide stroomt de benzine er aan de onderkant uit bij wat jij dat 'jet camber' noemt. Gezien die rubber o-ring het enige is tussen de benzine en de buitenkant moeten die gegaan zijn. Mijn vraag, weet je het formaat van die o-ring zodat ik die los kan bestellen en de rest in elkaar kan laten zitten? Dank alvast!

Ik heb een Volvo 245 met dezelfde carburateur. Hij heeft een tijdje stil gestaan en nu start hij niet. Ik denk dat alle benzine uit de carburateur is verdampt. Kan je bij dit model ergens een beetje benzine toevoegen aan de carburateur?

Ik vermoed dat jij een 175CD2US hebt. Die moet dan op een B20A zitten. Dat is een ander type waar ik ook een video over heb gemaakt. Als je brandstofpomp werkt moet hij hem volpompen zodra je de motor rond laat draaien. Iets benzine toevoegen heb ik nog nooit hoeven doen. Een klein beetje remmenreiniger erin spuiten om hem te starten kan wel is helpen, maar kijk uit voor brandgevaar.

Waarom de koperen aanvoer uit de carberateur drukken met een drukpers? Moet makkelijk gaan zodra je de aluminium behuizing warm stookt...

Ik snap de reactie en bedankt hiervoor 👍 Maar ik doe het op deze manier omdat een pers gelijkmatig druk uitoefent op de spoeierbus en dit helemaal zonder problemen gaat. Warm stoken is alleen nodig als iets echt vast zit. En ook hier zitten met aluminium weer risico's aan vast ivbm hitte. Deze bus zit er zo licht in gedrukt dat afstellen gebeurt met een dop 7, een klein hamertje en een goede schuifmaat. Zo gaat het al jaren perfect bij mij en alle auto's die ik af heb gesteld 😄👍 Het originele gereedschap is bijna niet meer te vinden maar die perst hen ook naar beneden 😄👍

@@RollinHeritage hmm oke, ook wel weer waar. Heb je nog n tip voor het afstellen? Met name de standaard schroefafstanden om te beginnen zodra de carb net in elkaar zit

@@m.nijsink6907 dat hangt helemaal van de carburateur af. Standaard zeggen ze voor die bus 1mm onder de brug maar die van mij zat na revisie ook op iets van 3mm
