No apologies necessary for not recording the entire process, Mark. I think the tips and advice you provided was more-than-adequate to help other builders successfully mount their wings!

Another great video. As always, very good explanation of what you did. It's a very important and difficult part, so I understand you concentrating on building instead of taking photos and videos. I'm looking forward to EP 95

Always enjoy getting to sit down to watch your videos!! Please consider filming more of your Pitts restoration as well. Thank you again for the help and info on the medical! Greatly appreciate it! I have found a highly recommended AME in my area.

♥️ The t-shirt. I had to stop and do quite a bit of reading regarding wing angle of incidence, sweep, and dihedral. I came away with the understanding the these angle specs, limits, and tolerances should all be mirrored on both sides as closely as possible. I don't know, maybe lowering the right angle of incidence three quarters of one degree opposed to the left wing would create a nice stick feeling. The wing strut's are sexy hot - so I had swap them out for 4130N tubes in my mind for aesthetics.

Mark, I been using chalk line with masonry weight on one end to apply constant pressure on line. We track center line and correct alignment on helicopter blades.

I’ve carefully examined every detail of this airframe’s design and I’ve concluded, you’ll get best stability and control performance if you set the dihedral reference to 3 3/4” rather than 95mm 😉

No way-if you did that you'd be off by about a half a smidge! There's no way the airplane would even get off the ground!

@@KitplaneEnthusiast when I did my private ground class back in the 90s at the local community college (holy crap, typing that makes me feel old 🤯), there was an elderly couple taking it as well. One day before the lecture the wife said she was having a “titch” of trouble with the previous topic. The instructor, also in his 70s, said, “for you youngins, a titch is somewhere between a smidge and a smattering.” Showing my age, but I think if that every time I hear that word. ❤️

Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (Dynema, Spectra, etc.) for the minimum stretch. Panel (drywall) lift is a handy adjustable way to hold a wing up. Use some foam insulating panels to protect the wing (mine is fabric covered.)

Braid fishing line would probably work fine too. I think it's mainly Spectra type material.

Great videos and very helpful. What is the height of your wooden wing supports.?
@KitplaneEnthusiastАй бұрын
I've discarded those wing supports a long time ago so I'm not sure how high they were, but what I did was measure from the floor to the wing attach point on the fuselage. Then I made them "a little bit higher" to account for the dihedral (the further you get towards the wingtip the higher the wing will be). I intentionally made them too short because if they are too short, you can always add some wood or spacers to lift the wing. But if you build them too high, then there's no way to compensate for that-you'd have to take them apart and cut them down a bit. So...make then "a little" too short, and then plan on adding spacers to get the dihedral perfect. Also, you can move them in and out towards the fuselage and wingtips to make smaller adjustments. Thanks for being a Member!

I have the first bolt in, getting the wings dialed in. Both sides seems to naturally sit at 3 degrees. Not sure about the rear spar to fuselage measurement as this would set the wing sweep or lack there of. Does the line help set the distance? The shim you made.. I may need to make one too on the rear spar to fuselage fitting. Did you use some skin material from the holes you cut for the shims?

Try the new no-stretch fishing lines, way better than anything at the home center.

Fishing Wire would work for your string... All Kinds of weights with these, meaning to keep tight without breaking
@mhilderbrand76932 жыл бұрын
I just installed wings on my Cruzer. Searching the forums prior, some had to slightly sweep wings aft (instead of perfectly 90 degree to fuselage) in order to achieve edge distance on the rear spar. How was the SD in comparison? Thanks!
@KitplaneEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Same way. They are very slightly swept. Remember, the string over the line of rivets is ONLY used to set dihedral and has nothing to do with the wing sweep. I set both wings so that the aft spar is about 1/16” away from the fuselage. That leads to a very slight wing sweep.

@@KitplaneEnthusiast Way back when I mounted the wings on my 750 STOL, it also required a bit of rear sweep to achieve edge distance on the rear spar. I consulted Caleb, who was an engineer that used to be at Zenith, and he said it was perfectly OK to sweep the wing a small amount - rearward or forward sweep, as long as it was symmetrical, of course!

Did you consider using a laser level? I would think that might solve the "sagging" string issue.

Braided fish line doesn’t stretch. A good tackle shop can help select the right fish line and teach you how to tie the proper knots.

@KitplaneEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Not for setting the dihedral. You could park the airplane on the 45 degree bank and as long as both wings measure the 95mm at the root you can set the dihedral.
