I like these a lot, small, compact, very capable, still looks relevant, not dated at all and above all very well built and reliable. Never had any issues with mine and the photos are usually impressive. What a bargain.👌

I bought one of these in 1998 while I was in Saudi Arabia. I brought it home after using it for about 6 months and my mother in law liked it so much I gave it to her. When I got back to Saudi I bought a Canon Ixus (APSC) which was super cool too but far inferior in IQ. I kept the Ixus and have it to date, though film is no longer available. In 2018 my Mother in Law sadly passed, and I thought the Mju 2 had been chucked, but last year my sister in law gave my son her mothers Bureau in which she found my old Mju 2, in stunning condition, with no batteries, so no corrosion and very minor cosmetic wear. My sister in law contemplated keeping it till I told her how much film and developing for it cost these days. As a keen camera collector I was happy to get it back only later to realise how sought after these things were. I paid around £200, I think 1200 Saudi Riyal at the time. It took beautiful photos, never missed focus and still works. I would never part with it regardless of how much people will pay for it.

I enjoyed your review of the Olympus camera. I have a version of the same camera which goes by the name Stylus Epic Deluxe. I bought it new in Canada and still have the original box, instruction manual, warranty card all in like new condition. Two features of my version are the Quartz Date Back and a switch for Panoramic shooting. Hard to believe it fetches twice what I paid for it. I will have to take it out for a photo session. As I have over 100 vintage cameras it is hard to shoot with them all. Also have a Yashica T4 in that collection. Another camera of interest in the collection is a Canon R2000 (1960 vintage Canonflex modeal) of which roughly 8000 were made. Have viewed many of your youtubes, look forward to future postings.

A few months back, my wife was cleaning out a closet and in one of the old boxes my daughter left behind was an Olympus ‘Stylus Epic’. That’s the name it was sold under here in the States. Hard to believe the price today goes for anywhere between from $380 to $450! Coincidentally, we intended to bring it to a Thrift store but never got around to it! I ‘m not interested in keeping old consumer film cameras. I guess I’ll see what I can get for it on eBay.

Very nice find there and it was always expensive I think for what you got. I recently picked up a Praktica G500 for very little money on eBay that has a 30 - 50 zoom. Looking forward to getting some film to try it.

Good and honest review of these little wonders without the stupid hype that's usually attributed to them. Had 2 of them, one of them used and the other new old stock, purchased when everyone was dumping film point and shoot cameras for digital many years ago. Both in excellent condition, one lightly used and the other unused and still in its box. They cost me $28.00 and $60.00 and I thought that was reasonable at the time. I took many photos with the lightly used one and was impressed by the image quality (for a pocket point and shoot) and the consistency of its focus and exposure. Sold them in 2020 when I saw the ridicules prices they were selling for. As you say, very good but not $5-600 good! And I preferred my Olympus XA anyway.

I've owned one of these and that lens is really good but I think I only used the spot metering once as I've never completely known when it's needed. You found a real bargain there but don't forget that paid staff , not volunteers, scour these videos and top Ebay sale prices paid for these items and others. They then base their charity's prices a little lower than those so each time anyone mentions £x or £x00 as a going rate they are soon aware of it . Pricing is rarely left to the volunteers nowadays. ps. I had really good results using XP2 with this camera. I must agree with your carrying it in its case ,( although it is SO Pocketable,) as that nice shiny finish is also eminently scratchable as I found to my cost.

When i used to look for treasure at church rummage sales, i found that they usually over valued old cameras. (Their most ridiculously overvalued gadgets were old incomplete, nonfunctional, obsolete computer equipment!) i admit what I really enjoyed was the hunt!

@Zenography ... Just about all UK charities sell their donated camerss through their Ebay shops, but there are still bargains to be had. I currently own (most from new) some of the "hip and cool" cameras, but the one that amazes me is the Yashica T4 which I bought new for £149 back in 1999, which now fetches up to £350 / £450 on ebay ... Hmmm do I sell to a hipster and buy a Voightlander 28mm f2 Ultron for my Leica M6 Titanium that I won with a £20 ticket in a prize draw ??

It is very small but there are a few other very small ones . Some that I can bring to mind are the Ricoh R1 which is mostly almost thinner than a film canister, Pentax Espio Mini , Pentax Espio 80 and Espio JR are thinner /flatter but maybe a little longer , Konica Lexio 70 , the Pentax Espio 115m is another VERY compact , pretty good little (zoom lens) camera . The Konica Recorder and Ricoh Auto Half Are tiny but they’re half frame . One of the old canon half frame ones is pretty tiny too but I can’t recall the name

I've had several copies of these. Back when they were manufactured, few cameras had the 35mm f2.8. Zoom lenses were much more popular, but their maximum apertures were awful. I pulled my last one out of the box recently, and it no longer works. Still looks very handsome though. I'm not a big fan of the resolution of the lens though. Right now I'm looking at old Rollei 35's to see if I can find an affordable one with the 2.8 lens.

mju is the Greek alphabet equivalent of m, presumably a reference to Meitani and OM. You're right, the Rollei and also Minox cameras were significantly smaller but not comparable to a mainstream compact. I think the mju was about £150 when first launched, perhaps a bit more, so somewhat more than average for a big name compact. Because of their cult status they are ridiculously expensive now and there are plenty of excellent alternatives for a fraction of the price. If the Nikon has exposure compensation you can cheat the ISO to get outside the DX range.

Although the exposure for the camera is fine, the hard light on you and no fill should be fixed with a bounce card, or a piece of styro off camera. I can't expect you to rotate the sofa to make you face the window...you might not have a good background.

My father had one of these back in the 90s. Not a great camera. He bought it second hand after his Konica C35 developed a light leak, which in the day wasn't considered economic to repair. It would misfocus a bit, and I think the lens wasn't as good as the C35. The autofocus gave up after a couple of years and not too many films, so I wouldn't regard it as reliable. I don't think it is worth much more than any other P&S of the era, and personally, I would take a manual focus rangefinder any day. \
