Zen Tenkara / Zen Fly Fishing Gear

Күн бұрын

Karin Miller, Owner of Zen Tenkara/ Zen Fly Fishing Gear, takes a look at 4 different sleeping bags to consider for her upcoming Greenland Fishing trip for Arctic Char. All for are top quality bags that are just under or about 3lbs. All are 600-700 down fill with slightly different features. Take a look, give your opinion, and help her decide which bag to keep and use.

Well, my advice is if you are sleeping on a cot, you should have some type of closed cell foam pad under at least the main portion of your body for insulation. When we camp in Colorado for elk hunting, we use cots, and they have been very cold without a sleeping pad. The ratings of each company are very subjective. A lot has to do whether you’re a warm sleeper or a cold sleeper. I saw several reviews of the.Nemo saying it was cold sleeping at 20 degrees and they would rate it more of a 30 degree bag. After a little research I would choose the Thermarest probably. Followed by the Hike and Bike bag. If space is not an issue you could always get a z-rest 3/4 length foam pad to help insulate your main body and put extra clothes under your legs for insulation. Also are use a kitchen scale to weigh all of my gear. Often times the manufacturer weights can be off. Another thing to add insulation is to wear a down jacket and longjohns and wool socks in your bag. When we did the float in Alaska for two weeks, we brought long sleeping bags and put our waiters wrapped in a garbage bag in the bottom of our sleeping bag to prevent freezing overnight. Another great thing to bring would be hand or body warmers! They have served us very well on those extra cold nights, and they weigh very little! A hat or a balaclava will also hold in a lot of heat while sleeping.👍 I hope this helps and I hope you have a wonderful and safe trip!🙏🏻🎣💜

THANK YOU! Great information and things to consider. The cots will have a 3" foam pad, so "glamping". I usustuff my extra clothing into my bag to keep them warm for dressing in the morning and for taking up space in my sleeping bag. I am limited on weight for the flight and rods, reels, flies, boots and waders can add up quickly on weight, so my packing list has to be very thoughtful and intentional. Nine days is a long time if you are uncomfortable.

Absolutely! Being comfortable is key. In light of that, I would probably pick the bag that feels most comfortable. I often use my bag as a top quilt if I have adequate bottom insulation. I had to buy an expander panel for my Northface 0 bag because it was too narrow. Well have a great trip. Tight Lines!🎣🙏🏻😊
