I own both the liric and the elite, and I run them at home with a burson solist 3xp and a pontus ii. The fact that it's about a 30/70 to 40/60 split of me using the both headphone already speaks volume since these cost half as much as the elite. The problem with the elite, is that it's very laid back. When you're working and just doing very passive listening, unless there is a crazy expansion of soundstage or some huge dynamic jump, it just won't demand your attention because that's just not how the elite roll. This is where the liric comes in, the soundstage is smaller, but still amazing for a closed back. The bass is more fun on the liric. Unlike the elite, of which the bass is very refined and textured, something you would appreciate if you're pay attention to it, the liric's bass is GROOVY, kind of reminiscent of the empy without the bloat and cleaner. When you're doing passive listening or just on a plane, that bass will play a driving role in the music. Incredibly, the liric's bass despite playing a leading role in the music, doesn't overpower any other parts of the music. Imaging is super sharp, i would say is actually better than the elite. The elite have a bigger than life quality to it sometime, which does affect imaging, cus you can't be dramatic and realistic at the same time. Pair with something like a quedlix 5k, I think the liric is as good as it gets for portable listening without going into absurd territory in terms of cost and/or unwieldiness. I did a bit of traveling toward the end of last year with it, and just like zeo's store experience, I was pretty sure that you can probably count the amount of people that are having a similar level of audio in LAX with one hand. If you ask me, the liric has made most of the entry level flagship headphones irrelevant. I own both of the lcd x and arya v2, and I would pick the liric over those 2 without even having to think about it in terms of sound quality alone, add in the fact that I can have it outside, it's game over.

@@edosan1068 I believe ya on the Arya v2. I didn't care for it. The Arya Stealth is a whole different sounding headphone though. It has a Wow factor the Arya v2 didn't for me. I'm not disagreeing with you on the Liric. I'd like to hear it. I've seen a lot of good reviews for it. But of all the headphones I've heard under 2 grand the Arya Stealth is the benchmark. With that said.... I saw Chrono from the Headphone show say he'd have a hard time choosing between the Liric and Verita Closed $2600 because they are very close. That's high praise for the Liric

I usually hate closed backs but I blind bought these a couple weeks ago - mostly because I used to have the Empyreans and loved them (sold them a while back because I bought the ZMF Atrium and... why would I need any other open back now) so now that I was in need of a "semi portable" pair of headphones I just went for it. Glad I did, and you know what, they remind me of the OG Nighthawks, which always had something very unique about them, because they kinda have the same "feel" to them I think. I used to always see the Nighthawks as kind of a small hazy bar with like Lera Lynn playing in there or something and you're sitting in those really plush like pink seats. These are like that except there haziness is more like expensive perfume, the bar is massive and you're sitting in an Eames chair.
@invisiblekid9911 ай бұрын
I have the NightOwls and while they do not quite have as much of that "feel" I love them. Since buying the Burson Soloist 3x GT they have really come alive too. @superdrangon123452 жыл бұрын
Bit late of a response but I did manage to demo both (and now have also purchased the Liric). Liric is definitely the more "fun" headphone of the 2 and the Noire despite being decently tuned SERIOUSLY lacked bass for my personal preference (I came from consumer grade headphones primarily being Beyerdynamics which are much more bass heavy than all of these). I wouldn't particularly recommend the Liric if you don't plan on doing EQ and are a person into vocals because they are pushed back (along with certain instruments but I can't describe it really), but if you don't mind using EQ then there's a few profiles you can find online that fix this an make it all crazy good. Otherwise maybe consider a different headphone that provides better vocals. I think sound is definitely better than the Noire (which is also definitely harder to drive) but when both are default tuning, the Noire's might provide perceived better vocals/classical due to lack of bass (I didn't demo long enough to confirm), and the packaging/design/build quality for Meze has always been absolute perfection. Noire has slightly larger pads and not much clamp force (I found both a bit loose but the Noire's were a bit too loose). I really can't say which is better in terms of pure portable use because Noire is harder to drive, but Liric doesn't fold like the Noires, pick based on your priority (easy carry, needs power from dac/amp VS can't fold but easier to drive and sounds better). Keep price gap in mind and also the iFi Go Blu drives the Lirics perfectly!
@superdrangon123452 жыл бұрын
Also by no means are vocals bad, they're just relatively pushed back. I just assume there are other options that are more vocal forward focused headphones for that use. EQ fixes this but not everyone wants to touch EQ or has access to it depending on the device. I plan on getting some Verite Closed down the road for a bit more extra punchy energy that I am a fan of. These are very clean, lean, and rumbling bass but doesn't have the same kick punch energy I'm used to with dynamic drivers (mostly consumer grade bass boosted things).

How's the driver flex on these? In my experience empyreans very quickly develop driver flex issues to the point where slightly moving your mouth or barely turning your head causes popping sounds

hmmm....shitting my pants whenever using headphones was my exact goal, but weirdly enough nobody ever mentions this as a quality criteria in reviews. Glued earspads might be a nogo for me though, but i guess I'll have to wait until they are here whether the sound outweights that.
