The beyer pads fit great on my AKG k240s, and it's a good combination if you care more about comfort than sound. That combination is my go-to TV and Internet video headphone, where you just care about comfort and nothing else.

I'm hard-of-hearing, probably the polar opposite of an audiophile, and only really researching to buy my first pair of real headphones and I basically watched this entire video. Sigh, I've probably spent about 5 hours now watching his videos trying to get a good idea of what I'm doing. Why am I doing this? I have no earthly idea, but this guy is entertaining, absent on the bullshit, and knows what the hell he is talking about. So it works for me.

Best pad review video ever. I wonder how difficult it would be to sew up a custom pad, sized perfectly for your own ears. Finding the material is a challenge as well. What would be perfect is a shaped foam that has space behind the pad for earlobes. Would you agree that angled hybrids would be best for comfort and sound isolation?

Dekoni elite hybrids on DT 1990s are the best combo I've found. It basically turns them into a more detailed open back ether C. Or at least that's the best way I can describe it. Still worth keeping the A pads around though.

Funny you should mention the ground splitting problem - I talked to someone not long ago who was complaining about it in a forum, I suggested a ground loop isolator or careful diagnosis by someone who knows electronics and who can maybe then recommend some cheaper impedance adaptation(?) solution. What does the guy do next? Adds the extension cable that came with his Aurvanas to the path between the splitter and the soundcard's mic-in and presto: problem solved, no more buzzing. :) (And yes, his microphone was still working, so an interrupted wire wasn't the explanation.) Now it may depend on each situation, type of splitter, quality of the connectors etc., but there is this possibility of balancing the impedances(?) between the two ground paths by simply adding an extension cable to one of them and then if you get lucky with it you don't need to buy a ground loop isolator.

Hi ther Zeos... how are you man? first let me say...LOVE YOUR REVIEW...:-) now we can move on ... im a musician, a drummer and just love music in general... had some crappy over ears during the time...and was looking for a good solid new pair. after looking around the net...was coming to your reviews again and again... a 100$ seemed like a good enough money for my look up at the moment...and by looking at your reviews was thinking between the CB-1 and the M40x... i wanted to try the CB-1 but they dont ship to ISRAEL where i live...and they dont carry them here in stores as well. so i went on and got the M40x. first, thank you for your great review...im very happy i got them, great sound...balanced (for my music), and loving the details i can here again with this great pair of cans... but...theres always a but...the PADS...you were right...not that great..and for me...(got big ears..i guess... :-) ) the opening s too small and pressing on the top/bottom of my ears. i was looking at the HM5 ones you've mentioned ..and they look good..but im afraid the opening isnt gonna be be enough..so i was looking at BRAINWAVS web site...and came across this 2 pairs : www.brainwavzaudio.com/collections/accessories/products/pleather-headphone-pad?variant=4755809349 and this...the hybrid ones www.brainwavzaudio.com/collections/accessories/products/headphone-pad-hybrid do you any experience with both of them ?... can you please help with this...? :-) thanks again. keep up the amazing work that you do. thanks in advance... I am, in no way, judging the content. I'm just pointing out how one may benefit, as a content creator, on such a video. The nature, and likelihood, somebody would buy one of these pads, on the links you provided, will probable be much higher than ever. It's a win-win situation all round, if anything. On side note, do those sheepskin pads, for the 598s, really not change the sound quality at all? You would think going from stock Senn velour, over to a leather medium (and probable different foam material) would do that.

I'm really wanting to buy new pads HE400i's, but not sure which way to go. In your your review, you didn't try different pads on them, but I know you've experimented with different pads on Hifiman headphones. So with all that said, which direction would you go? I probably wouldn't bother you with this question, but good pads cost a lot and I'm a bit gun shy to pull the trigger on anything.

I can only guess and I can guess just as wrong as you. Velour is probably the way to keep them sounding the most similar.

Would you have any suggestions or recommendations for T40RP Mk III's, when you are going for, 1. maximized isolation, (such as when recording vocals and acoustic guitar, you don't want the mics to pickup bleedthrough from the headphones, and you also only want to hear what the mics are hearing, not any ambient sound outside the headphones, thus the choice of T40s over T50s.) 2. An accentuated and extended low end, as although the RP series has a very even and accurate response curve, they have a fairly linear decrease in low end the lower you go. And 3. Maximized comfort for extended listening, with little to no contact of ear cartilage to the driver assembly. Thanks, and a thumbs up on your videos bro.

Hello Zeos, I'm a big fan of your channel but I'm still in a roller coaster ride with my Hyperx cloud pads (takstar pro 80). I like both the velour and the original so I can't decide what to use. Can you give me some tips with regards to closed back + velour ear pads? Are they advisable? I use it 70% Gaming, 20% Music and 10% videos/movies.

I would take apart the materials inside the pads and replace it with other ones. That's what I did with my custom headphones.

I tried the xb500 pads on my m560 and they sound/feel better than stock pads. Any more alternatives?

Zeos in your previous video about the ATH-M40x you recommend the ZMF Oval Cowhides. Do I understand correctly you actually prefer the Dekoni's instead?

So which are the best third-party pads for the ATH-M40X? I hate the stock pads. I need as little alteration to the sound as possible and hopefully better comfort and quality. Possible?

Try some sennheiser hd569 pads. They are velour MEMORY FOAM, with hm5's structure, but lil bit less deeper.

Do the cowhide pads reduce treble a WHOLE LOT, or just slightly? I've got a pair of Yamaha's that sound PERFECT except the treble can get a TEEENY TINY bit too sharp around 9-10k. I'm considering getting the cowhides to fix that, but I'm afraid of losing crispness and detail. Thoughts?
