It took me 10 years to create a healthy daily drawing habit. Most people struggle to apply themselves and I'm one of them. With the right tools, I was able to get over that particular hurdle and start drawing and improving consistently. I want to help you do that too!

The feeling of "you don't want this enough" is so draining cause the guilt that builds is just mentally and emotionally tiring. I promise I want it enough😭😭🤧. Thanks for the vid,will definitely implement this😤😤

Omg it used to frustrate me so much, I thought I was a huge failure for not “wanting it enough” 😭 If you give yourself the right tools you can practice consistently and you start to want it more as you get more confident! I hope it helps you! ☺️

I know this video is from a year and a half ago, but I’ve been watching your videos for the past couple of days and they are extremely helpful. I was told at an early age that I had “talent” for drawing, but after about 15, I stopped spending a lot of time on it, pursued other things, and now 24 years later find myself little improved. I have been discouraged and embarrassed that my art skill doesn't seem to match the amount of time I’ve been interested in it. But discovering drawing as a skill has been such a freedom for me to keep practicing. Your juxtaposition of art with systems has really resonated with me. Thank you for putting this out there. I appreciate your time and effort.

It's pretty cool that a lot of artists had this same experience. 3 years ago when I decided I want to be an artist as my career. I started doing the daily 15 minutes too, then kept increasing the time once I got used to it. Now I draw pretty much everyday for at least 30mins to a couple of hours

I'm glad I started doing it pretty early on, I had been drawing for around a year, but I was pretty inconsistent. I think I got the 15 minutes idea from the draftsmen podcast

Super helpful advice, as someone studying computer science it is hard to not think about myself as a “programmer trying to make art”. Great video as always keep it up!

It’s becoming a pattern I notice of ppl in programming fields also go into art because I feel like they’re more similar than we think. Been a developer and artist as well.

I managed to draw 1 hour for six month straight a few years ago, i just forced it litteraly untill it became habit. Issue was the moment i broke the habit i stopped i couldnt draw for that long and the worst part was that i was doodling i wasnt really drawing anything proper so i didnt get much out of it outside of knowing that i could draw for long periods of time that was in like 2017. Im trying to get back to it because from then and now ive had this constant want to go back to it i know its my passion i just need to start again im yearn to show people my ideas.

That's great you were so consistent before! Believe it or not, your brain remembers those habits and if build your way back up to an hour, you should fall into it quite easily. I wish you luck!

I totally understand trying to start small such as drawing for 15 minutes! But what exactly do you even draw for that time? I cant draw everything like anatomy, expressions, clothing, and backgrounds all at one time. It would become overwhelming for a short time to draw. Is there somewhere youd recommend to start off so that im getting the best out of my 15 minutes or so time?
@ZephyerArt
@ZephyerArt Жыл бұрын
My go to is drawings heads ☺️ You don’t have to finish the drawing, the important part of this is showing up for yourself. And as you draw more you get faster! I can finish a head sketch in 15 minutes but they used to take me an hour 😂 Getting the best out of that 15 minutes is simply to show up. As you get comfortable and increase the time you can start adding layers of complexity like learning anatomy.

Hey man, love the video! I found it helpful and motivates me to start my own practice. One thing I’d like to know that’s ill help me s knowing the software you use to track your progress. I saw a software being used a few times across the video, so I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. Thank you!

What's the website you are using to track your habits?
@ZephyerArt

I setup a habit tracker myself using Notion (just listing out the days and the habits I wanted with a checkbox for each). I was already using Notion so it was an easy fit for me. I know there are apps for it as well so whatever works best for you! For a while I did it just be writing in a sketchbook because checking it off felt more visceral and real.

What online schools did you use?
@ZephyerArt
@ZephyerArt 8 ай бұрын
Very few actually, none that I can really recommend. I know there are some great online teachers out there like Kat Tsai (you can find her on twitter with a link to her class) who teaches color and light and I've always heard amazing things and the students produce awesome work. I know the school I went to physically, Concept Design Academy, is doing online courses now too but I never took the classes online. I'm sure they're just as great but I haven't been a part of any. I hope that helps at least!
