Just gave ya a “oh captain my captain” as we got off the train at the same time in a nondescript theme park. Tried really hard not to over-fanboy and impose on your vacation. What I would’ve said (had I been less able to restrain myself) is you’re hands down my favorite streamer+pro in my favorite game in the world. It’s easy for an amateur to say standings and tourney performances aren’t everything, but you bring so much LIFE to this game and community that your impact resonates as much as the Serrals, Raynors, and Marus of the world. All that said, Zerg without queens is absolutely diabolical, you psychopath. Much love ❤

A cool thing about mass hatchery is that each hatchery gives 6 supply, so you can actually reduce your number of overlords by a lot!

Welcome to broodwar style play!😅 except in broodwar zerg IMO was pretty awesome since we had scourge, 1 supply hydras, defilers, and flying queens that could one hit any ground unit and spawn brooding that actually put in work at the same time. Not to mention mutas could actually do enormous damage when used correctly. I really miss defilers though.😅

@sakesaurus you never "needed" queens in broodwar. They were comparable to vipers. It was fun to go mass queens though against mech armies and just instantly destroy everything lol

Honestly, the queen as implemented in SC2 is probably the worst addition to the game. It's the sole reason why I just outright do not like playing Zerg while in SC1 I was happy to play all three races. This whole mini game of spread the tumor/kill the tumor is utterly annoying and boring, being too reliant on it as your antiair and attacking bases only to find a swarm of queens defending and healing each other feels super weird lore wise too.

Harstem, I have an idea for BGMWSS. Rush Banelings and Burrow, and play super defensively in the early game. The stupid part is, not only are you going to be putting banelings in every choke, but also in the worker lines of future enemy bases. I doubt you'll be able to get some banelings burrowed in the natural expansion before it's out, but I reckon you can compromise the third and fourth base with 2-3 banelings each. That way, later on in the game you have an easy economic detonation button hidden away. I don't play SC2 anymore and I was never all that good, but I feel like there is a path to make this work. I leave that up to you to figure out should you accept this challenge. I believe in you!!!

This was fun! It felt a lot more how Zerg should feel imho. I understand the idea of the Queen's design in SC2, but I think it takes too much away from Zerg. Imho Zerg is about rapid expansion, and that means taking bases and thus growing the base. The SC2 Queen does care for brood by adding eggs and expands creep with the tumors, but in the end that allows for a small base/Hive and a creepy crawly secretive play almost. That's now what I'd associate with the Swarm. I might have liked them giving the Hive itself a defensive ability upgrade similar to the Planetary Fortress in the spirit of the old Creeper Colony evolutions: Either anti-air only or the burrow-tentacle. Even if you restricted that only to Tier 3, to prevent "cannon-rushing" with it. You'd get expensive towers that create Larva. The Queen needs a job though.

5:05 ~66 drones is “standard” for 6 minutes. But it’s difficult to evaluate here because you are supposed to have more queens and less hatches.

U get extra supply as well for workers with less queens as they take up lots of early game supply

I've never understood the dread of making queens, I've always liked queens, even in wol before transfusion existed yet I thought they were pretty good. pretty cool looking, good animations, half decent fire power. not too crunchy not too squishy they feel just right. Why people hate making them so much I'll never know. I do think they should cost a larva like everything else and I think they should require gas, but I find you seem or feel to be lacking anti air without them so perhaps corruptors? even in just batches of 3 for the occasional stray viking harass/tricking terran into thinking air is coming? also in brood war overlords are your scouting information -- I know you like to keep them home safe and sound and in big clumped batches but you really are supposed to spread them out doing map wide patrols with speed upgrade, its safer that way. especially since they can dispense creep onto terrain to prevent terrans from building expansions. Lurkers are most useful on ramps, and Xel'naga towers, and not cliffs, since they were updated and now can no longer attack units that are quote ''across chasms'' (cannot attack up or down cliffs) and are best used spread out as jump scares too. Remember a lone lurker can trigger a scan, and every lone lurker is another scan not spent on all your clumped up lurkers. Hold fire on lurkers is also good, especially since they still give vision and ambush options, and they automatically remove the hold fire status when they take damage, meaning you dont always need to micro hold fire lurkers in order for them to defend them selves. Sometimes its better to have 2 lurkers together instead of just one, so you can one shot marines harder even if they do get scanned they will still deal more damage together then they would alone. But lurkers alone will eat more scans, it depends on which you need: less scans or less marines. Infestors fungal growth does not deal enough damage to kill entire armies, it lacks the stopping power of psi storm, this is why infestors need zerglings and banelings both together as supposed to roaches, since roaches are ranged they tend to sit on infestors and get hit by tanks, splashing the infestors which is bad for you. Where as lings and banelings will put the tank splash on marines, which is better for your infestors. Instead of roaches you use banelings because the banelings have the stopping power/dps/speed to properly use the fungals, and zerglings Infront of banelings to take the hits, to allow banelings to finish closing the distance, the lings and the banelings are all in on attack move/right clicks on tanks/right clicks on hellions, but the infestors must come in at the end to use fungals and slip away while the lings are giving you the breathing room to do so, because infestors cost too much gas other wise, and are probably better off being changed out for vipers instead. Fungal growth also works well with brood lords, giving the brood lords some burst to help them at closer distance engagements, and to use their fat bodies to hide infestors under them. You can also put infestors inside transport overlords and perform mineral line attacks with fungal, Similar to using high templar/prisms to attack mineral lines, using the overlord transport and the one or two infestors alone. Fungal growth is also great for spine crawlers, as their dps synergize with each other well, allowing spines to one hit marines, greatly increasing their financial efficiency. Great games well done. Not making queens to me any way feels sad, but also interesting to see.

@@sakesaurus yes it feels like alot early or mid game sometimes, like 2 upgrades worth, but mind games keep them at home/trick them into mistakes, which can be critical to not dying long term. Especially if your trying to not ''make any queens'' which is unconventional to say the least. if you are floating alot of gas its probably still worth it. depends on how much work you can get done with just 200 gas. a fake spire can panic a terran into making a bunch of usless missile turrets, which helps your zerglings alot, missile turrets are alot easier to deal with using lings then hellions or marauder bunker. not so useful a trick against protoss or zerg, but mind games are very fun and very useful at times. = )
