I can't believe that it's been over 50 years since my first night on Lackland AFB. Back then the new arrivals were referred to as Rainbows as everyone arrived in their civilian clothes of all different colors. There was no channel such as yours to give us a heads up on whats coming but still we made it. I didn't know then that one day I'd look back on it all with great fondness. I feel very priviledged to have been a member of the USAF.

I am currently in the Air Force DEP and I am waiting for my contract and a ship date but I am doing quick shipping in hopes to ship earlier than my ship date. Some things have changed si ce I went through. I remember us just chillin' in a party vibe at the hotel the night before leaving for our respective boot camps since we had future Marines, Sailors, & Soldiers all being sworn in together at MEPS, so I'm not sure if they are still doing that. A night of freedom before heading to Lackland & the fun began. I went through over 20yrs ago, so with the exception of our basic being six weeks instead of eight, not being allowed to have cell phones, & the lack of having a Warrior Week....everything sounds about the same. I still remember the first MTI we had that gave a friendly greet us upon arriving to the 322nd. He looked like an extremely pissed off Vanilla Ice. I think his name was SSgt Bowls if I remember correctly. Extremely informative video for those that are about to ship out. Keep up the good work.

On the bus ride to Lackland (Fall 1988) I was seated beside this really pretty 1/2 Japanese 1/2 American girl. She seemed really scared. I laid my jacket over her arm, then reached underneath and held her hand. I saw her three weeks later at church. A few days later she wrote me a letter. My MTI had a field day with that. She wrote me almost daily. When we got to Tech School we dated. We went our separate ways when our assignments took us to different sides of the world. I sometimes wonder if BMT would have been harder had I not had her to distract me and to keep me from thinking about home so much. Life takes you down interesting paths sometimes.

2:44 so I'm a DEPr and my recruiter said that the height and weight portion they want you well under the max weight in ship date as apposed to sk8ing by (pun intended). I was just wondering if your recruiter or someone said something like that.

I have a packing list video on my channel although it may be outdated by now, I would ask a recruiter for a packing list, I would recommend headphones though, I didnt bring mine and before we left for keesler I had to go buy some lol

Mark Abney you shower twice a day I believe especially if you have pt in the morning but if pt is in the afternoon im not so sure, from what I remember it was 2 times a day

You march with your flight to this other non running older squadron, it's pretty far from the other buildings. You go in with your flight and you wait in line for quite some time with your flight and then eventually you make your way to the front and a civilian worker will come grab you and take you to this big bathroom filled with other trainees taking pee tests. Then you pee just like at meps while someone watches, they just kind of watch from behind you or aside you. Then you grab your cup and give it to someone and you walk back outside and wait for the rest of your flight. Sounds easy but when you have 60 dudes waiting to pee and 15 of them can't go it takes a while. You usually wait if you cant go, as in you wait there, you drink water until you have to go and the flight waits for you. If you are taking a super long time then you might have to go back but typically everyone pees.

Storage. You can only keep things you brought to bmt that you will use like toothpaste ,razors stuff like that..

Honestly, I am not sure, best thing to do is probably try to lose the weight and then gain it back after, but it really is all up to what your recruiter wants :/ There are just certain things you have to do to get in ya know

David Mercado you dont really do anything on sundays they are down days for the most part. You can go to services if you want to. Every flight has an MTI the first sunday to show them what to do, but after the first they are on there own. The only thing you do is clean like regular, but besides that you sit in the dorm all day and roll and fold your clothes

Joey Chaparro enlisted then married my fiance after tech school. To an extent you put duty before your wife but honestly if you can't balance your life enough to have family time you don't need to be married anyways. Also the air force is easy as hell so it's not hard to have time for family.
