Week 14 of my 7 month journey as I train from zero prior experience to complete an Ironman in order to raise awareness for T2KO and support those facing this tough battle.
This week's episode we film with ‪@ShawnXiaoMelb‬ at a music festival over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day! All whilst continuing training for Ironman Australia on May 5th 2024! It's getting closer!

I randomly came across your videos a couple of weeks ago, I nearly died when I saw Jes - I’ve seen him a couple of times for running related injuries at back in motion he’s a legend😅 The vic running community is a small world, also surely start a cheeky run club or something chill for the recovery runs🤔🙌 Keep it up, such an epic journey

I’m thinking of doing a half-Ironman this year and your channel is a great insight for me! As was the videos Average Rob done so great to see him feature as well! Keep going bud. Smashing it 😀😀

Keep it up! Love how you spliced in your editing work life with training. I feel that juggling act too. The match cut with the festival cups worked really well👌 hooked me in to the watch the rest ✌️ Nice job getting the edit done without your shortcuts, that’s rough, would feel like swimming without fins for the first time 😂

To get your swim arm timing right, try freestyle arms and butterfly kick. It is literally impossible to not get your timing right doing this. Your swimming has come along so well.

Urgh, KZbin is the worst for comments. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with that. Unfortunately it seems to be inevitable whatever kind of content you make 😕 In terms of open water sighting, the “water polo” drill is a great one for practicing that head position. It takes a bit of getting used to with the timing, but you’ll get there 👍 Keep up the awesome work!

Yo! About the dropping weight / nutrition topic. I had struggles with this at the start of my IM training too. Not sure who told you you needed to drop weight, but I know I definitely started my journey thinking the same. I was attempting to hit all my IM training sessions why being in a calorie deficit to lose weight... but that was a bad idea cause I felt like shit all the time. Ended up going to see a nutritionist (who was coincidently the national cycling team's nutritionist), and she mentioned I was not fueling and eating enough at all. That caused a dramatic shift in my mentality from "I have to lose some weight" to "I have to fuel properly to perform my best for the training sessions". Over time, I'm noticing my body weight is not changing much (maybe a few kgs dropped), but I've gone through pretty significant body re-composition. I.e. gaining muscle density and losing fat... so, while my weight has been pretty stable, my body fat % has gone down over time.
@brodysearle
@brodysearle 6 ай бұрын
Thanks mate!! I find I fuel my sessions well, just need to cut out some bad habits eating; like you’ll often see in my vlogs 😅 But yeah I’m the same as you - I find the days I don’t eat enough (for many reasons), my gym sessions suffer horrendously but that’s a no brainer! Appreciate it mate!

Ignore the negative comments, everyone sets their own challenges and who cares if someone has done it before, you'll smash it. Last year in 2023 I walked in the UK from Lands End to John o'Groats some 1053 miles in 51 days...and this was from sitting at a desk for 30 years with no exercise. This year i'm doing the same as you but aiming for an Ironman in 2025 just before my 55th birthday, maybe a sprint tri in October to check i'm on target.

Worth taking a look at the LMNT electrolyte mixes - with all your endurance efforts and sweating you are likely to be low on electrolytes 10:50

Thinking about a sweat test too? What do you think?
@sigfreed11
@sigfreed11 6 ай бұрын
@@brodysearle Gatorade has some cheapish patches if you want to try them (I never have), but I think it is probably safe to expect you need replenishment of electrolytes during your activities. You go for a very long time and are sweating plenty, so if you have not been ACTIVELY seeking out electrolytes in your diet, I cannot fathom how you would be getting enough
@brodysearle

I’ve been using a lot of Gatorade and staminade (I think it’s called), I also got given some powders to put in drinks for when I’m riding! So I’ve been using those this week :)

@@brodysearle nice, that’s definitely a good start! Personally I try to avoid as much processed “food” as possible to avoid the added unhealthy chemicals - but I realize I’m not doing what you are doing and it is hard to get in 10,000 calories when you eat whole minimally processed foods 💁‍♂️ It is probably worthwhile to get in touch with a sports dietitian or at least watch some of them on KZbin (like at the RCA)

It's not weakness dude, it's fatigue.. which is part of the training. When you have a light week, or you start the taper before the race, you will feel amazing and strong. There's always going to be flat weeks, but the training is still counting even if they're sessions that don't feel as good, or the numbers are less than a previous session. Get used to the feeling as you get closer to the race, just trust the program and remember you'll feel great on race week.

I've been reading the book "Peak: The New Science of Athletic Performance That is Revolutionizing Sports" by Dr. Marc Bubbs. It goes really in-depth on what is needed to become a great athlete. It has tons of info about nutrition for endurance sports as well. I definitely recommend it. It can be a bit of a tough read but I treat it more as a reference manual rather than reading it front-to-back.
