After I used this knife a couple months I came to love the green CF, also I added a DC clip and lightened the detent to allow for thumb flicking

ZT Emerson just purchased after review. Great review. Candidly, I expected a vibrant Viper snake green color. Even in the sunlight the carbon fiber green weave is muted. I plan on keeping these scales. Also, the clip is tight but I wear my knives inside the waistband. I feel the draw is smooth. As per your comments on utility, the Viper supplies me with a superb blade design and CPM 20V steel. Thank you for all your reviews.

great review, as usual. somehow, i love the look of these scales--looks like something mother nature came up with for a slithery creature. the blade is an instant classic for me.

Just got this knife with aftermarket scales and clip to be sharpened by the Rob Bixby sharpening service (yes used, but gently and for the $250 price point). I am a ZT advocate having purchased many ZTs in the past .. I like big, chunky knives .. especially in titanium without carbon scales. I've recently picked up on the 940-1, Kapara, 0470 virus, so we'll see how this plays out.

This knife is really growing on me, especially since I don’t like the last 3 releases from Zero Tolerance. Think I might pick one up soon and maybe get some micarta scales for it. Thanks for the review.

Beautiful knife, even with its bile green handle.

I just bought one of these a couple days ago (kind of a Christmas present for myself) and I'm very happy with it so far. I'm not really understanding the hate for the scales, though, since I like them.

The problem with this knife is the grind. Like the 808, it doesn’t take long before you have to start thinning behind the edge. I sold mine off fairly quick because I didn’t want to do a regrind down the road. I already had an Inkosi anyways, so the 640 was redundant.
@Kevinclearysharpstuff5 жыл бұрын
Yeah grind is a bit thick although better than most ZTs

If you're going to keep that one, disassemble the pivot end, clean the pivot and washers well, and 'lube' it with some mothers polish. Just a tiny bit. Or flitz, your choice. Open ans close that thing about a hundred times, disassemble, clean, lube with graphite powder. Drop shut, dry lubed work knife.

Fine review. I have been looking for an Emerson Viper. Thank you.

The scales are fine. I actually kinda like them. Blade is good. Steel is great. The clip is less than stellar. Overall, it’s fine. However, I hate the thumb disk. To me it looks like someone constructed a knife and then realized they forgot to include a way to open it. So they went out to their garage, milled out a notch and put a disk in it. That’s just how it looks to me.

I have no issue with the handle scales. They're different and original to the design..

You know what I just thought of? Those scales on the ZT could possibly be even worse to find after dropping than coyote scales. Whoa, that benchmade is a hulk... Your taste in knives is very similar to mine recently... That's probably not good for my wallet.
@Kevinclearysharpstuff5 жыл бұрын
Yeah true that said I kind of want to put tan micarta scales on it

I have to agree with you on a lot there. I love that blade shape. I don't really care for the thumb studs but they are better than a "wave". But those scales are just ugly. Having to spend so much money to make it look better just really detracts from its desirability. Let's face it - a lot of knife collectors like the look of their knife. And having to spend so much money to make it not look ugly simply drives the price way too high. If you could be all in under 300, maybe. I love the shape, ergos, etc. But I just can't get past those ugly scales.
@Kevinclearysharpstuff5 жыл бұрын
yeah I agree I got this one cheap so its worth it for me but probably not most unless you love it

The Karbadize scales look nice except for the clip holes on the show side . Was it Aramis Akhmedov who made the scales ? That's DR Frunky's go to guy . The Aramis scales will have a clean show side .

I disagree a lot with you about the color of the scales, I love 'em! But otherwise this is a really good review and you have a nice collection. Thanks for doing it. I just got this knife last night and I really love it. Except the pocket clip, I hated it as much as I have always hated Cold Steel's crappy clips. I don't want to have to use 2 hands to put my knife away. So as soon as I got it and realized what a problem the clip was I went and ordered a MGX Gear deep carry clip. I wish I would have seen your review sooner, I would have tried bending this factory clip to work better with thicker, leather-reinforced pockets. I had bad luck breaking the clip on a Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter and I was barely bending it and it broke. So I wasn't even thinking about going that route. Thanks for letting us know that is a viable option. One more thing I will say, if you are on the fence about this knife just get it! I can't emphasis enough about how much better is is in real life. It balances so well and looks so good. At least try it out before you make a call on it. It's an awesome knife!

I don't know why ppl are trashing these scales... it looks tactical. Simple as that. It fits the darker tone of the titanium too ...
@burgundypoint4 жыл бұрын
They really screwed up on the clip. Poor design for the simplest yet very significant part of the knife. Could get an aftermarket, but at $250 it should have been perfectly functional out of the box. I mean its 250... for a knife. It has to be flawless out of the box.
@camojoe835 жыл бұрын
I tell ya, I do like this one.. I just wish it was a little larger in some dimensions.. I would be fine with a rerelease of the 0909 with some 20cv... And big, fat bushings. Tired of these "hard use" knives with open grit catchers as support hardware.

firetac or this ,in your opinion. not to consider sharpdressedknives for your scales is a real shame . he has micarta, carbon fiber lots of different colors cf , twill, copper ect. and hes a small fry making his way . quality is top notch

Your not wrong but having talked to some people who worked in repair departments one should never underestimate the ignorance of their customers or in my case viewers, I know some people watching are kids, and some can't change a tire. Not all lots are well informed and highly mechanically inclined but you have to cover your bases.
