I remember when my high school mate snagged this game at Kay-B Toys. He loved it. He was a great radar for unusual Sega Genesis games. He picked up Haunting, Splatterhouse 2 & 3, and I am eternally grateful for it. If you sprinkle in Robocop vs Terminator, General Chaos, Ghostbusters, Alien 3, and of course the Mortal Kombat trilogy; your Genesis collection becomes a pure testosterone-machine . . . Great video!

I have this game, and the link cable. Co-op Play was awesome for the time. Co-op required two copies of the game, two Genesis units, and two TVs. How the link cable worked is that it was plugged into the second controller port on both systems. I used to use a controller extension cable to make the link cable longer so my brother and I could play with one of us at the living room TV, and the other on the bedroom TV. It worked like a charm! This would be easier to play using a Nomad as the second setup.

Limited music tracks aside, the audio is surprisingly good. I would have expected it to be very compressed and awful since they crammed so much into the cart graphically, but that punchy shotgun blast is probably my favorite sound effect on the Genesis. It sounds so powerful.
@FridayNightArcade6 жыл бұрын
It really is done fairly well. The stereo effects are also super helpful when you're sneaking around tipping you off if the enemy is to the left or right. This would be a good game to plug in a headset to the Genesis with.

Even though I had access to Doom on my very own clone 486DX2, I loved this game. I remember wishing Sega went with an SVP chip for this game as it would have been out of this world. You have to think, had this been an Snes game it likely would have had an FX or FX2 chip. Even though the graphics were not great for its time the gameplay and length more than made up for it....shotgun collected. This should have been on the Genesis Mini...oh wait, it's on mine! ;) As far as being a gamer from that time...I'm with you 100%. I may be a bit of a Sega snob that does not mean I didn't love my Nes and Snes. As long as a machine has at least 10 truly great games on it, it's worth owning to me. My life just wouldn't be the same without Mario, Yoshi, Link, Samus, Ness, and many more. Just as I would truly be a sad panda without Sonic, Tails, Gillius Thunderhead, Axel, Blaze, Adam, Skate, Knall, Luna...again, I could do this forever.

Not only did I play this game, I played it on the SEGA Channel. So double whammy of old impressive game and tech. The game spooked me a bunch with the sounds and the tense music. Not sure how far I ever got. I think this is another one of those games that benefit from being played on a CRT to kinda blur the things to make more detail. I've never seen the actual cart or box to this game in person, much like a few classics because of the SEGA Channel. Which, is why I'm not fond of streaming games or subscriptions to play games. I already had my entire gaming library basically yanked from me when the service was cancelled

This game seemed waaaaay ahead of it's time. Question though, the hit detection seems to be way off in favor of the player does it not, or is it just me? While watching you play I noticed sometimes when you would shoot it wasn't aimed at the enemy and yet the enemy would get killed. I'm guessing maybe that was what it was like for most console games back in the day. BTW, DUUUUUUUH PLAY ROBOCOP VS TERMINATOR DUUUUUUH! LOL

This game and its sequel "Zero Tolerance: Undergound" got recently official physical release on Evercade as part of "Piko Interactive Collection" cartridges. They are surprisingly good, considering their technical limitations. The guns are very satisfying to shoot thanks to the sound effects and visual impact. The enemies really react to sounds, which you can use to your advantage - you set up a mine and then make a lot of noise with a grenade to attract them into your trap. Pretty sophisticated for a 16-bit raycaster shooter.

I own a little collection of Genesis games and I think that this is the best one in it. I laid my hands on Zero Tolerance already in the age of PS1, and I had a PC at home back then with Starcraft, Age of Empires, and other hot titles, but I just fell in love with this game for somewhat reason. That minimalistic approach really looks claustrophobic and I think that the basic graphics just adds to that Alien`ish vibe. The setting, plot and overall ambience just screams about 70ties and 80ties sci-fi movies! It`s an underrated gemstone and I wonder why so few people know about it since it actually was way more advanced game than, for example, Doom. Armor vests, grenades, lifeform scanners, flamethrowers, options to crouch, jump and dodge, CCTV cameras in corridors, that legendary sniper on the opposite rooftop... Goddamn, need to play it again. Where`s that damn cartridge... p.s. - for somewhat reason this game is very well known in Russia/Post Soviet countries. Can anyone explain this phenomena?

I've never even heard of this game until the Switch collection was announced, and I really like the way this looks. I've grown up with Wolfenstein 3D, but that hasn't aged well at all. At least this looks a lot more palatable with its more varied textures and map. I'm not particularly crazy about old FPSes either (DOOM notwithstanding, which is every bit as fun to play today as it was nearly 30 years ago!), but this looks pretty neat. I'll consider picking up the physical Switch release. The music and sound effects also remind me a lot of the Apogee games that I had grown up with.

Ironically, I can still only afford one system BUT I've come to celebrate console exclusives (fancy that, a dev team focusing on o n e pile of code......rather than multiple. We're looking at you, Cyberpunk😐). I may hail Halo (well, we'll see what becomes of Infinite 😒) but I look forward to experiencing Uncharted, or new Mario Kart.
