Imagine if they found an even more important law then they'll call it the negative first law of thermodynamics

We could've easily said , they have the same tempertaure instead of thermal equilibrium. It would've been easier to understand on the first place. Amazing job overall. Thank you!

This is the first time David did something dumb; it should be Key Lime Pie out of the fridge, a plate from the cupboard, and a thermometer. "Steel balls" and "cubes of water".....doh.....he gets a pass though 'cos all his other stuff is genius! BTW, this law was created after the fact to make it OK to use a thermometer! The thermometer is the 3rd object and we needed to formally agree that the thermometer's temperature IS the temperature of thing it's measuring.

Let's keep going backwards. -1st law of thermodynamics: An object at a temperature will remain at that temperature unless acted upon by a different temperature. Except for maybe radiant heat ... might have to tweak this law. I credit the name of this law to a previous commenter.

Why every one take 3 objects in zeroth law
@101759788 жыл бұрын
I still don't get it, but I think that's just because I'm here at a time when it's a given that this is the way it is.
@Fermion.7 жыл бұрын
Think of it as a stove, a pan, and an egg. Imagine you heat the stove up till it's red hot. Now place the pan on the burner. After a time, the bottom of the pan and stove burner will be the same temperature. Now, for the sake of argument, lets say you take the pan off the 1st burner and place it on the 2nd burner (same area and temperature as 1st burner), and the pan holds it's temperature, regardless of the brief airflow during the burner exchange. Now if you place the egg in the pan which is now on the 2nd burner, the egg will eventually become the same temperature as the pan, which has maintained the temperature of the 1st burner. 1st Burner = 2nd Burner = Pan = Egg. They will all be equivalent in terms of heat energy _(insert thermodynamic equations here)._ Therefore, if you place the egg on the 1st or 2nd burner, the egg will neither get warmer or colder. It'll be in perfect equilibrium with the pan and 1st *OR* 2nd burner. _Don't take this example too literally. Obviously, IRL, the egg will burn, causing energy to escape due to chemical reactions (which is a whole other set of equations). This is just a thought experiment._ That's a very basic citation of an example of how I was introduced to the 0th Law as an undergrad. Hope it helped.
@prastutnepal71374 жыл бұрын
@@Fermion. How come the egg and the pan will still have the same temperature? Isn't the egg at a different temperature in the first place? Let's say the egg's colder so when you put it in the pan there'll be exchange of heat which in turn changes the temperature as well. In no way all 4 of the objects you mentioned will attain thermal equilibrium. P. S: I know I'm wrong but please explain it to me explicitly.

Chase Nevins only like 9 months late. But I think it's like saying if outside is at 20 degrees and in your house it also 20 degrees when you open your door for some reason your house gets warmer/colder even though there the same temperature
@deaddarknessgameplay64226 жыл бұрын
Basically, the 0th law of thermodynamics may be wrong in such a universe that defies math and physics. In our universe, the 0th law is part of our physics code but in another universe, this may be physically impossible.
@relayyl6 Жыл бұрын
Why is this a law👀?

Imagine a universe where "intelligent people" wouldn't have to come up with dumbass theoretical examples of alternate universes where our "universal laws" wouldn't apply and would therefore not be "examples" of "universal laws".
