@@OskarJohansson1 They are hexagonal structures with halide light bulbs that replace Sunlight when the Sun is being eclipsed by planets passing through our Solar System. There are 7 of them at various latitudes. Characteristically cool light hue compared to golden light from real Sun. People will rarely see the real Sun nowdays due to numerous daily eclipses and hence constant Simulator usage. The constant Simulator use started about 1993 and people under 30 years age will have rarely seen the real Sun. The hexagonal shape is obvious if you look through welding goggles or dark sunglasses

Thanks for the review Oskar, self towing is the way to go! The other downside (besides price, 250h maintenance and battery degradation over time) is it'll probably be considered as jetski in most places, so got to pay attention in protected waters and such. It's just a matter of time when there is some kind of regulation pops up due to some bad actor...
@OskarJohansson1
@OskarJohansson1 8 ай бұрын
Yeah its a whole new relm with the electrification of foil products. Battery deg is a great point, not sure what the cycles are like on these but I'll do an update over time. Regulation is the potential risk with these. They are ultimately safe devices is used safely... like anything its the one person that usues it incorrectly that will ruin it for all of us. But at this stage I am treating it just like I would a jetski and adhering to those regulations. Our maritime actually came out to see me using it and they were so interested in getting one for rescues. They didn't raise any concerns about safety but loved the idea of it being inflatable.

Hey, there are a couple of reasons for not using credit cards or PayPal. The fees are quite high, 2-4% depending on the card. this cost would have to be added. Most high value products are done with bank transfers. The other is fraudulent charge backs. I’ve had them previously with $50 items I’ve sold and they are a nightmare. A fraudulent charge back is a risk and hassle that at the moment I can’t take so have opted for just bank transfer.

So, why this and not just an electric foil?
@OskarJohansson1
@OskarJohansson1 4 ай бұрын
An electric foil is much heavier with the batteries in the board. This becomes much harder and slower to turn. For example my setup weighs about 5kg, where as an E-Foil is about 25kg. With this device you can ride a super light weight small board, with the smallest highest performance foils so the performance on the wave is as high as possible.

I sold my foil drive for one of these and best decision. This thing is so fun. Yes it’d be a blast with friends but has been epic for solo tow sessions too. Super light, easy to get in and out of water by your self, easy to control, and you’re foiling on your regular weighted gear no battery box or prop attached to your setup. Highly recommend
@OskarJohansson1
@OskarJohansson1 8 ай бұрын
I don’t think that’s necessarily a straight forward question. I think it depends on what you want to do with your foiling! My biggest thing with riding any electric products is I don’t want to sacrifice performance when I am on a wave, which is my ultimate goal. Foil drive is a great tool for learning to DW and for learning to foil in the surf. But the negatives are when you’re on a wave you have a much heavier setup and if the prop goes in the water you have a bunch of drag. ZeroTow you have no compromise on the wave experience, you can ride the smallest and lightest setup tuned to maximise performance on the wave. But it isn’t as accessible in all locations as you can’t use it near other water users. Also if you want to learn to SUP DW, it’s not going to be much help… maybe it would be good to do DW runs and then when you come down use it to get back on foil 🤷 I can already SUP DW so I am only looking for a device to help me ride waves and at the highest performance and we have heaps of spots with no people so I would choose the ZeroTow. Also I am getting almost 3 hours of battery compared to maybe 20mins with a slim and I would need a bigger board for foil drive than my 22L prone? Not a clear cut answer, but just things to consider

Small down wind runs work ok, but going directly into chop can be hard work so if you can go upwind in a bay and then go out into the waves then that’s ideal. Having said that I haven’t winged in over 12 months and have been full time on the Boogie in any conditions and have always had fun!
@OskarJohansson1
@OskarJohansson1 8 ай бұрын
Straigh into the chop is tough, but you can cut a 45 degree and zig zag you way upwind. I have done it a couple times in moderate chop, but never 15 plus knts. It is totally possible! I want to try do it on a longer DW run with a prone board. I could also start from a harbour or somewhere that normally would be a long paddle put, but with this just drive straight out and then when in the bumps get it to follow me.
@bradridolfi

Would be really interested to hear more about how this performs in a downwind situation. Not necessarily punching upwind into chop, just assisting getting prone boards on foil and following along.

It’s funny, I had the same perspective! But think about it in reverse, a brand new Yamaha FX is the same as 3 new Boogies. Factor in ski/trailer rego, servicing, licenses, fuel, and car maintenance from reversing into the ocean, might as well add a fourth boogie haha. And you still need another foiler to drive and they’ll take 50% of the waves. So wave per dollar you’re looking at a 1 to 8 ratio comparing new ski to new boogie. Now you’re thinking it’s a bargain 😉 Still nothing wrong with the prone setup we all still own! We are just creatures that always seem want more 😞
