With statistics like that, it's a wonder Brita is still able to sell their products. At least attempt to re-vamp their filters to equal ZeroWater. Their filter's haven't changed in all the years they've been in business!

They market themselves into getting people to think they're better when they're not. I think they're realizing they need to change their filtration because now they claim to reduce lead...a few years ago that wasn't even in their radar! They only reduced sediment and improved color. We searched for a water filter when Mike fell ill years ago from poor water quality and we've been using ZeroWater ever since!

The filters don't last as long and cost more, but Zerowater is WAY better than the competition. No comparison. Worth the extra $$$, and it's not like we're not talking big bucks here. You can literally taste the difference and if you use it to make your coffee and you use a fancier brew method like an AeroPress or a French press you can really taste just the beans. I don't say nice things about products often, but Zerowater is a really good investment.

Ron Pearson brita leaves a lot of healthy minerals in for nutritional benefits and taste benefits. a tds reading doesnt mean shit because it doesnt measure the real harmful chemicals that can be in your water. zero filter filtering everything is great, but it isnt an indication to a better tasting water. if my tap is extremely suspicious then id go with zero. but if i want tasty water its brita all the way. and again, just to be clear, 0TDS isnt an accurate measurement of “clean water”

@WanderingWagners

When we drink water we want to drink nothing. We get minerals from our food. The zero readings also mean there's zero heavy metals, which Mike was poisoned with a few years back so we prefer this vs trace minerals we can get easily from other sources.

I picked up my ZeroWater today and would like to share my readings. I live in Dieppe, NB Canada My tap water read 21 My Brita water read 15 The ZeroWater read 0 My mother drinks Kirkland bottled water from Costco and it read 238!!!! Lynn, your readings were much higher than mine. I guess the quality of the "control water" is key as to our Brita readings being so different. Water quality will definitely vary through out Canada, the US and the world for that matter. None the less, it appears the ZeroWater will bring any tap water down to "0".
@WanderingWagners
@WanderingWagners 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, depending on where you live and your public water sources determines how dirty your local water will be. We travel all over so we err on the side of caution and always have ZeroWater. Most bottled water is simply City water that's been bottled. There's studies that show the plastic from the Caps breaks down and contaminates your water in the bottles as well!
@bassesatta9235
@bassesatta9235 2 жыл бұрын
just wanted to put this message out there for anyone reading, your “water readings” dont mean shit because the minerals in bottled water are healthy and good for u. they are there for a reason. tds measurements, for laymans, are essentially pseudoscience. if your TDS measure a ppm suspended solids of 100 and 50% of that is lead, ur more than likely to die.
@johnfrieson9428
@johnfrieson9428 Жыл бұрын
Hey there Ron! You have to remember that the TDS meter reads total dissolved solids. What this means is that that meter is reading anything that is in the water period rather it be good or bad. The bottled water you have from Costco is purified water that has beneficial minerals added back in for taste, minerals are good for us. So that explains why the Kirkland shows that it has 238 total dissolved solids which simply proves they are adding the minerals they claim.

We just recently bought a Propur pitcher. I think the Zero pitcher sounds great, tho. The only thing is, since it removes everything, trace minerals need to be added. The Propur removes over 200 contaminants but leaves vital , good minerals. That's what we like about it. The pitchers are a great alternative! I read that your husband got heavy metal poisoning thru water a few years ago! Yikes ! Boy, that must have been scary!! Thankfully you were able to figure it out & fix the problem ! Wishing you all the best & good health.

You should mention that the zero water filters don't last at all. At most they're good for 1 month. As soon as you get a reading of 006+ you will be doomed to deal with horrible acidic water that smells awful. Yes it's much better than the Brita but you're going to be spending a lot more to maintain. I suggest to purchase a reverse osmosis system.
@WanderingWagners
@WanderingWagners 6 жыл бұрын
The filter won't last as long if you have poor water quality to begin with. This is clearly marked on ZeroWater's webpage. You can check your local water quality. Our filters last longer than a month. They filter out a lot more than Brita, so they work harder. Your consume more contaminates with Brita and the filter doesn't measure the water quality... It's just an estimate on the lid off when to change the filter. ZeroWater also has subscription programs to save money on filters.

How long they last has EVERYTHING to do with how much crap you have in your water and how often you fill up the pitcher. Zero Water is the ONLY filter (out of the top three, including Brita and Pure) that actually lets you know exactly how dirty the filter is. With Brita and Pure, you are only guessing. I'd rather know the truth. Sadly some people think the truth is inconvenient.

I'm reading a lot of good things about this filter in comparison tests like yours, but when I head to customer reviews I often find that users complain that the water starts to smell fishy after already several weeks time, with the quality of the water coming out worse than the one going in. The company advertises filters to last several months instead of weeks and furthermore doesn't mention that filter saturation could actually lead to deterioration of water quality or nasty odors. Now, I understand that a filter's life cycle is a function of the tap water quality and use frequency, but the difference is big and the odor complaint is worrying. Now that you've had the chance to use this filter for a while, I'm curious whether you experience similar issues and a need for frequent filter replacement.
@WanderingWagners
@WanderingWagners 4 жыл бұрын
I've been using zerowater for probably 4 years. The longevity of the filter is based on two things, tap water quality, and use. If your water quality is not good to begin with, the filter works harder to clean it up and therefore will not last as long as better tap water quality. That is based on region and the water source etc. Secondly, if it's just you using the water it'll last longer than a family of 5 all using it. For myself, it's just 1-2 people, and the PITCHER filter lasts a month before it needs changed. Tumbler filters don't last long at all in my experience and I don't really use the tumbler filters anymore. I simply fill up my tumbler with the pitcher water instead. I've only ever had a fishy taste in the tumbler. Zerowater says it's not harmful and to just change the filter etc. I've never had a fishy pitcher filter. Hope that helps

certain filter do good for certain places. Zero water actually scored very poorly at filtering out contaminates from treated water in Arizona where brita scored a little better. the best thing to do would be to test your water to see what's in it. for me having well water I run the water through a brita filter first, then through/store in a lifestraw pitcher. the Zerowater does the same thing as my deionizer tank for washing cars which makes since as its filled with the same ion exchange resin. I do use the Zerowater though to make car detailer spray as it eliminates the hard water that would leave hard water spots on paint.

Lynn, We purchased the zero water set like the one in your video. What I was asking you is, after I fill the water filter three time the water stays in the top and doesn't drain through anymore. The water level is about half way up in the pitcher. If I raise the top portion that filter screws into the water will drain out..
@WanderingWagners
@WanderingWagners 6 жыл бұрын
Typically if you fill the reservoir full twice and let it filter through each time, the pitcher will be full. Once you use water, add more to the reservoir to then filter through what you used. You never lift the filter and tap water reservoir out of the pitcher unless you are replacing and washing the pitcher. The filter stays in the pitcher at all times until it gets replaced. The only reason I removed it in the video was for demonstration purposes ( like I mentioned) so I could easily place the meter in the water without transferring water into a separate glass.

But in blind taste tests, people always prefer brita water to zero water. Zero water doesn't taste as good. If you look at taste test reviews, Zero water scores at the bottom. Brita scores right at the top, for flavor. Certain minerals add flavor to the water.

This video shows a clear bias towards zero water and is probably sponsored. To be honest I broke our Brita last night and went to amazon to order a replacement but saw they have a stream version out and went to KZbin to see if anyone reviewed them side by side where I came across zero water then went to reviews on Amazon and when the zero water filter dies it really craps out and seems to dump the double the contaminates back in. I’m not saying I won’t buy a zero water but more research or unbiased research will be needed like how the filters perform over time.

People sometimes think I’m a little crazy for drinking distilled water, but actually it is like rain water without contaminants. Also, if anyone has concern about not getting minerals , ( which should be obtained in a healthy diet ) they can add healthy ones back into their water with trace mineral supplements.

The filter is submerged simply because it's large. It's a 5 stage filter so it takes up more space. Makes sense being inside is all. As for the gallon counter, I've never cared about that. I just periodically check the water with the meter to know when or about when I'll need to change it. Normally, you'll know about the time it needs changed. Me personally, we change it once a month, so I know about when to start checking the water etc.

Hi, how often do you change the filter? I have heard the filter does not last more than 2 weeks and their is a "fish" type of smell from the water within few weeks forcing the user to change the filter. Is this true? Its all there in the you tube?
@WanderingWagners

It depends on the cleanliness of your original water source. Check out ZeroWater.com and they have a map where you can check your local TDS. This will help give you an idea how long your filters will last. Our pitcher filters last a few months, and they are heavily used. The tumbler filters don't last as long because they are considerably smaller than a pitcher filter, and they can last anywhere from a few weeks to a month plus... Just depends on the source it's filtering. Dirtier water will cut the lifespan of the filters. But better caught in the filter than in your body!

Not a true test. Brita pitcher is supposed to be filled and emptied twice before using. That might affect the testing.

Just wonder where you live to have such a low reading on your tap water? I live in Melbourne FL and my zero water meter reads 350 on tap water. I'm having to change my filter every week to week and a half. And after the meter reads anything the water taste funny and the tap water dose not. Its like is zero water putting things in the filter that breaks down and makes you change it?

We live in NW Ohio. Every municipality is different. Your area could have worse water ( all the more reason to filter it!) I know you can go to zerowater.com and look up your area compared to other areas and they will tell you what the water TDS is at etc.

Well that looks conclusive - ZeroWater is the best of these two. One question - do you know if ZeroWater uses "Reverse Osmosis" for filtering ?
@WanderingWagners
@WanderingWagners 5 жыл бұрын
They have a 5-stage filter which acts similarly to a reverse osmosis system. It replaces the ions in the water and eliminates all dissolved solids. It's certified with NSF international too. The ZeroWater product out come is very similar to a reverse osmosis outcome. With ZeroWater it's operated by gravity so no water is wasted. Hope that helps!

Your measurement unit does not show which water is better . TDS shows the amount of minerals in the water , minerals are good for you . If water has no minerals it is called ultra pure water , this water is very dangerous . Technically speaking the Brita is better because it keeps some minerals
@WanderingWagners
@WanderingWagners 5 жыл бұрын
TDS is ALL dissolved solids. Which can include lead, chromium, pesticides, chlorine and yes things that aren't dangerous like calcium etc but unless you're only consuming water everyday without any food, you don't need the minerals from the water. Consume healthy diet vs consume potential lead water.

The Zero Filter clearly outdoes the Brita re: solids...but, I'd expect that some solids (like minerals) would be beneficial, so it's WHAT solids are removed I guess (scientifically-speaking). Did you ever consider a Berkey filter? Yes, I know they're expensive ("buy once/cry once" applies here), but other that that? I've seen them in a number of full-timer RVs. -- BR

Just making a point. Bottled water is nothing more than filtered city tap water, the filtering being minimal. I looked up zero, the cartridges are from 7$-16$ each. We have inline water filtering, the cartridges are 12$/each, and last about six months. Um considering reverse osmosis to replace the inline filter. But the zero is great for camping. We go through a lot of ICE water and tea. Um also gonna get the 2gal/30 cup zero with tap that goes in the fridge, if it fits in the camper fridge? Thanks for the 411.
@WanderingWagners
@WanderingWagners 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah most bottled water isn't even filtered... It's city tap water and it says it right on the label. Some are filtered but most aren't. Plus I think bottled water tastes gross, and I saw a news story about bottled water having bits of plastic in the water from the Caps. I'll check to see what will fit in the camper fridge, we have the 6 cup pitcher in our camper fridge. I'm not sure how they measure cups because the completely filled 6 cup pitcher can fill up the 12 cup coffee pot haha

Here is a tip that will greatly enhance the life of your zero water filter. Do you have access to a reverse osmosis water machine that sits at quite a few grocery stores? For a quarter you get a gallon of water and that water will read around 16 ppm. Use that water in your zero water pitcher and your filter will basically last for hundreds of gallons. I have experience with this. My city tap water runs close to 200 ppm and I can only get about 10 gallons before my filtered water starts reading 6 ppm.That is pretty expensive considering those filters run around $12 to $15 each. That’s $1.20 per gallon for your filtered water. Use the reverse osmosis water to run through your zero water filter and you will greatly benefit cost-wise. It will average six cents per gallon of filtered water plus the $.25 that you spent to get the water from the reverse osmosis machine. I have a 5 gallon jug that I use so I do not run out of water too quickly.

Hi Lynn, I have a question . About the zero water filtration system I just purchase. How many times do you fill the top before water won't drain? Do you have to find a taller container to use in order to fill the zero pitcher to the top? We love your video's. Gary & Cece
@WanderingWagners
@WanderingWagners 6 жыл бұрын
What size pitcher did you purchase? I'm not sure I understand... You fill the top and let it filter through, then you add more water in the top to filter until it's full. Then when we use water, we add more in the reservoir to filter through.

We bought this Zero water filter on your recommendation and have been using it daily for a few months now , so I feel I can give an honest review on it now. We don't like it and here is why. The filter seems to constantly clog with just using tap water , this has happened in every location we've been in , so I doubt it's the city water . We fill the top and it fails to drain down through the filter into the pitcher. This has happened several times in the last few months and is very annoying. There is no way to clean the filter to try and make it work , so we end up replacing the filter ( way before it should be time to replace it ) with a new one , and that's not cheap. In short , I wish we would have purchased a Berkey Water Filter for traveling instead ( which we now play on doing ) , they may be more expensive , but at least they work when they're suppose to and you can clean the filters . Sorry guys , but Jo-Ann and I have to give this product a big thumbs down.

Sorry to hear that but we don't have those issues and we've been using it for years. You should be contacting zerowater if you feel you have a defective filter. We've never had any clogs at home or in the RV.
@escapefromny2012
@escapefromny2012 5 жыл бұрын
Really? Fails to drain completely? Never drains? Or does it just drain slower and you don't like to wait? The dirtier the water, the longer it will take. It's five stages instead of 1 or 2, so of course it will take longer. Yes, Berkey is just as good (both will take out 100% of roundup, for example) but Berkey takes up way too much room on a side table or small counter. I'd rather just wait and be patient.
