Or maybe it was to make the player question why he should slay all these colossi and if they served a more sacred and vital role than a typical video game boss. We do know that they served to seal Dormin away but the music also makes you question the colossi themselves and if they weren't just some giant savage creature. How do we know if these creatures are misunderstood and that those you were slaying were innocent, compassionate titans who only wished to be left to their own devices? What if, like you said before, they felt pain whenever their brothers fell dead? What if the protagonist is causing more evil to roam the world and the Colossi are the reluctant guardians who want peace to reign at all costs?

So, I have a theory about Malus' fight. Wander wasn't supposed to be fighting Malus one-on-one. The barricades in Malus' arena are facing away from him, meaning there were probably supposed to be men behind them that were helping to defend Malus. Going off of the idea that all of the Colossus' lights are used as a kind of distress beacon to show that somebody is trying to release Dormin, I don't think it's too farfetched that Emon might have been trying to rush to Malus to defend him. His men have crossbows after all- they could have fired them right through the slits in the barricades. I suppose there's the point that only somebody with the ancient sword could get through the seal to get to Malus, but maybe there was some kind of secret passage up to Malus that only the shamans knew of. I'm just spit-balling here!
@ronger9710 жыл бұрын
Perhaps when the seal was made, People where stuck on the other side to defend the colossi, but over time they died out, and turned to dust

Dormin is Nimrod spelled backward, Nimrod was this ancient king that had commited an unforgivable act and had all parts his body cut off and sealed. Dormin is this supposed entity that was sealed off into 16 different collusi. The place was deemed as "forbidden" because in legend if that king had brought back the pieces of his body, he would be released and would bring terror the world. - Mono was brought back to life as a happy ending stated by the creators, and as a connection to ICO.

Kasperi01 It's about a man who is driven to such sadness by the death of the woman he loves that he steals a sword and travels to a forbidden land to try and revive her. Only to resurrect "evil" old God and be killed by his own people. He puts himself through Hell to save her, and he does, but ultimately dies thinking that he failed. That last playable part where he desperately tries to reach Mono before he's sucked into the vortex is one of the bleakest scenes I've ever seen. How is that not absolutely heartbreaking? And that was just the base plot, there's a lot of other stuff that's grim about it.

Love is a psychopath and Wander became its puppet. there are many theories regarding Wander's actions, this was mine. Amazing Game, Amazing Soundtrack, Amazing Story.

I honestly prefer the idea that he was Mono's killer. It makes for an interesting notion of trying to atone for his guilt, and then racking up more guilt and pain throughout the game by slaying the colossi. It's a vicious cycle of guilt and suffering in a desperate attempt at atonement. The path to hell is paved with good intentions, after all.

When you hear this music, you can help but feel rather melancholy and full of remorse. You killed these magnificent, breathtaking creatures, each with a concious of their own, who were left in a distant land lost to time for the purpose of preventing a horrid evil from escaping into the world. When you kill them, you cant help but feel sad because these amazing colossi will never again walk the Earth. Saddest part: most could do little to defend themselves, being trapped in caves all their lives
@Reaper0Sovereign11 жыл бұрын
Dormin isn't entirely evil. You people need to start paying attention to phrasing. He said he borrowed this warrior's body. That's hardly an insult or shows sign of dis-respect to the lead character. If anything it seems like he's misunderstood, and does have a vendetta.

If you really want to get deep about this game's arguable plot, you could even say that Dormin wasn't really evil. Perhaps he was the object of an older religion that was rejected when something new took its place. Dormin was true to his word and revived Mono. Also, he used the term "borrowed" when he possessed Wander. Maybe he just wanted revenge against those who betrayed him and ended up screwing over Wander when he ended up failing to kill Lord Emon and his soldiers.
@xXxFinalSephirothxXx12 жыл бұрын
@ex1lepr0 Because each colossus contained a fragment of Dormin's power. Their sole purpose for existing was to contain his power. They lived off of it. In a sense, the colossi WERE Dormin, or pieces of him.

Malus is the biggest thing I have ever seen in a video game. Just the sight of him looming over you is intimidating and awe-inspiring. He gives off this omnipotent feeling that makes you feel so small and insignificant. Shadow of The Colussus isn't a game. The title of video-game does it no justice. It tells a story in the most magnificent way ever. It is the most moving and imaginative game I have ever played, before or since. It is by far the greatest game I have played, ever.

All Wander ever thought about was saving the woman he loved the most. Well, even tough the colossi are in some way "peaceful", it's not like he asked Wander to murder innocent creatures, his real intention was to ask Wander to bring his 16 pieces together, in the end, he killed no one, he just freed them from their stone case... against their partial will, as they seem to have separate concience. But that seems to be because the seal also drives them crazy and aggressive in some way, maybe because the seal makes them want to prevent Dormin's revival too.

He ended the lives of 16 ancient, sacred beings, that never harmed anyone and all held a piece of an ancient evil contained in them. Wander's motive was an endless love but the acts committed in the name of that love were beyond atrocious. The slow realization of that through the music and details in this game is masterful. Only when Malus finally stands before you, do you fully realize what terrible things you've being doing in the name of love.

And you sir are the one who captures the power behind this game. It exposes the selfishness of even our purest motives, it highlights the sin in beauty, and the human propensity to annihilate what sacredness remains through our avarice and pride. Wander is ambition, Agro is motivation, the colossi are all that stand in their way; lust greed angst fear depression, and in the last the defiance f these natural impediments leads only to ruination of all things associate. Ragna Alucard Just brainstorming here, but a) They're supposedly bestial in nature, so they may be more or less aggressive and territorial because of that. At the very least, they would have a preservation instinct. And b) the fact that you are usually the agressor does not mean the colossi are "innocent", so to speak. They *are* sealed away in a portion of land that is not only deserted, but off limits, for one, and let's not forget that they are all husks animated by pieces of the soul of a demonic entity. Though we're trespassing on their territory, they were sealed away from the rest of the world for good reason, as the ending demonstrates.

I wonder if that choir has any lyrics or if it's just random vocals, i've seen some like that with no meaning, but i really wish this has actual lyrics to it, but i can't find it.

I remember the save states you can make. Could I go back to this game I would create a save to engage with any Colossus whenever I chose to.

To be fair, he had no idea of the colossi's placement furthermore their intent, its like comparing this to MacBeth when MacBeth is fully aware of the actions he committed were beyond wrong but continues them, Wander simply thinks the colossi are malicious creatures, you cannot say this game exposes the selfishness of our purest motives if Wander had no idea of the evil intent behind it. But it is still literature I just don't believe Wander is to blame at all or to chastise him with words. ^_^

I would assume to save Wander's love. Who, despite being dead or near death, holds a meaningful connection to Wander. *warning, overly poetic rant incoming* The fear of death holds power over us all wether we know it or not, and seeing it in a loved one only cements it in reality. To the point where it chills us and there is nowhere we will not go to try and escape it. And as guilt and pain slowly fills Wander, it also slowly begains to fill the player as they continue to climb giants.
