Superceedure..... is it possible that the colony is so big that the new queen simply cant keep up and the hive then superceedes her to try and get an even better laying queen...... which is limited. Im new to this but it seems logical . Your thoughts.

I've converted all my crown boards to metallised bubble wrap this year... They reckon it's equivalent to 5 cm of polystyrene... All helps keeping them cosy

I have often heard of bees that are super face on the frames as your bees are may bee a sign of being queenless. I do believe in what you are doing here--the longer frames. They replicate what the bees do in nature the they overwinter better on them

I'm running a couple of zest hives this year and tried to do a cloak deception split earlier in the year. It didn't work and I think they were picking up to much queen pheramone from the Queen right side. Could this be affecting your other colony?

Is it not so that the new queen waits with laying eggs until all the old brood is gone?

Can you catch the queen, install in the queen-less, lay some eggs there, transfer back, bees from queen-less make a queen from those eggs?
@BarefootBeekeeper5 жыл бұрын
Sure. There's many permutations possible.

Transfer eggs and 5 day later you have to look transfer frame.. queen cells: some of them closed some of them open.. you have to destroy closet queen cells. Because closet eggs old age. They feding little Royal Jelly. Don't touch open queen cells. More royal jelly good quality queen. Then good mating : more dron..

Why supersede of new Queens? I've not had that problem but beekeepers I know have
@BarefootBeekeeper5 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that it's poor mating, but that requires explanation.

Lots of queen ordinary why?.. if you make new queen you have to chose best eggs 3 or 4 day eggs.. queen producer be main problem I think.

your probably in an area with high strontium and barium in your local air
@billiamc19695 жыл бұрын
My initial thoughts is your second colony needs to be reduced down to half as many frames...the queen doesn't have confidence to lay on more than 3 frames which in my area is a serious survival issue as we quickly approach fall. The bees are to spread out...IMO...right now I am consolidating and removing sparsely covered supers and frames.
@BarefootBeekeeper5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think you are right. I may go in and remove some of the wooden frames. The ivy season is about to start here, so they will continue to store food for as long as they can fly.

Hey Phil, just curious, what is your favorite hive style?
@BarefootBeekeeper5 жыл бұрын
I think the top bar is still my favourite static hive, although for portability it's hard to beat a poly frame hive. The Quadratic is the most versatile, for sure.

Its too bad this isn't a Flow Hive (tm). If it was, the bees would fly right out and crap their honey directly into your jars.
