Darkseid had been reborn in the body of the son of Mazahs (an alternate evil Shazam) who could steal energy powers, and had already stolen powers from heroes. Zeus' lightning easily fed him. During Justice League Darkseid War, he's attacked and nearly killed by the creatures that can drain life force from gods, removing the magical Mazahs powers.
