I'm a 32 year old male from a small country town in Australia where everyone listens to the same 70s and 80s rock songs or modern stuff, but I found this through an alarm ringtone on my phone (samsung) I loved it and had to google it and this is the first video I came by. Had achance back vhen I serve in Czechoslovak military at communist time, on skis sunday winter y.1965 visited his home south of Prague. Where he composed beauty lakes his pigeon, etc. House was like museum. His young granddaughter was happy see as out of (i was with friend) nowhere she started fire in fireplace, made some hot vino drink and give us beautiful biology, history of the composer. She was so happy since officially put down by the communist government because hi visited Capitalist America !!! Especially he wrote about the great Industrial DEVELOPMENT in USA. He mention that US had very high technology, bat very little music- culture. Estabilished numerous music conservatorims of high music education. I was very disgusted by the tyrany and persecution mine and my entire family for no reaso , so I escaped in sommer of 1966 to Denmark. After wetting mi for 10 month I emigrated to USA .Since 1967 in Arizona one year (very, very hot )than since 1968 in San Francisco. Hope why I specialy love A. Dvorak my countryman. Today it is not Czechoslovakia. In 1993 commarads split like Hitler in 1940. Today it is Czech Republic and Slovakia. I'm slovakian was living just across Danube river from Wienna, Austria Forgot, A. The very thought of that brings tears of joy to my eye. Can you even imagine? And she is now well on her way to a wonderful career as a lyric solo soprano, with an advanced degree (Summa Cum Laude) in that art from the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music. We are Sooo fortunate to be here to witness all of that. Have you been following her career on the videos produced by my friend Primož Zevnik ("Zevnikov" on KZbin) her early tutor and the founder of this amazingly superb high school/ youth symphony orchestra?

@@nonenoneonenonenone This was a high school and youth symphony orchestra, dimwit. Look up the definition sometime. And try reading up on the history of this superb orchestra and the choruses. In addition, some of these musicians are former graduates of the school who had gone on to careers as professional orchestral musicians, and were invited back as honored guests. And a small handful of the musicians were either music teachers at the school or professional musicians with the Slovenian National Symphony, also joining the orchestra as honored guests. But unlike many "youth" orchestras, around 90 percent of these fine musicians were current students at Gimnazija Kranj. Also, this selection performed by Ernestina was her closing song during the very last performance of this orchestra before, sadly, it was disbanded in December 2018.

She's just a human. She was born. She's living her life. Then someday, she'll die. Just like every human being that has ever lived. Elizabeth... My friend Tog has, on the captions on this stunning video, translated from the Czech lyrics literally word-for-word. So the lyrics in English are of course not in usual conversational format. And unless you know the significance of gypsies in central European history and culture, you may miss the significance of that line. This beautiful lament is actually one of a collection of works by Mister Dvořak titled "Cigánské melodie"... Gypsy songs. There has been a "singable" English language version of this lovely song around for probably a hundred years, and it has been recorded by many famous professional singers, both male and female, over the decades. It is the version my own mother, a classically-trained pianist and very good singer, taught me to play on piano and sing well over sixty years ago. Here are those lyrics... Songs my mother taught me, In the days long vanished; Seldom from her eyelids Were the teardrops banished. Now I teach my children Each melodious measure. Oft the tears are flowing; Oft they flow From my memory's treasure. 😌💖💔 Here you go... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXfMqpZvebGNesU Me ke aloha from Hawai'i... 🌴🌴

@tog hoath :) Thanks. You're right, the original Czech poetry was written before 1880, and the English translation, by Natalie Macfarren, was written before 1916. I understand Czech, so I didn't click on that little gear. Also, thank you for the record of Richard Crooks, a great voice. Surprisingly, the English lyrics is about as good as the original, and Charlotte's voice is like an stream of liquid gold, too... :) Great singers' voices always contain a substantial proportion of supernatural, as if they're singing from Heaven.
