23:30 The cause of failure. ZF PART NUMBER: 1056 272 049 Free Wheel, used for gears 2 & 3, the 2 gears that had virtually no drive. I pulled the sprag (1way clutch) apart, it has excessive wear to the teeth of the "grabbing" elements. Perhaps it may of lasted longer if the oil wasnt like tar. While alot of frictions have been lost it still would of worked for a while longer.

Hello. It is a very clear demonstration of the gearbox. Thank you for this. Once I replaced the O-ring on the tailpiece. When the tailpiece was off, I touched the last gear, I guess it is called parking gear and found that it moved, it had some rotational play and axial play (axial play probably because the tailpiece was off). After putting back the tailpiece, I did a test drive and I heard humming (similar to bearing howl). It did not happen before. Since then I hear it every time. It happens only when I start to drive in 1st gear, when it shifts into 2nd gear the howling disappears. In winter driving mode it does not howl. In general, the gearbox works very very well, it is very smooth. Only this noise worries me. Do you know what can howl in it ? how can I fix it?

Beautiful video all respect. Please if you can answer me please. I have a bmw 525 tds 1998.Transmission 5HP18.model.A5S310Z. What type of oil do I use to change it? How do I get the oil out of the converter? To make it 97% good a video would be welcome thanks

If im not mistaken you need a special machine to get the oil out of the converter of you need too flush the transmission sereval times. The type of oil depends on the transmission. If your fillcap is green and the nametag you need the lifetime fluid. If its black you need a different oil. Mine had an greencap and i used ravenol 5/4 hp fluid its works just fine. I changed about 10l of the 15l of oil at about 300.000km.

Bonjour J'ai une bm e34 bva La boite ne foctionne que à chaud, elle démarre correctement mais lors du passage au deuxième elle lache et passe en mode sécurité . il me faut au moins 20 minutes de circulation puis j'arrete le moteur et après quelque secondes je redémarre et ça fonctionne bien, jusqu'au je freine et tous change et elle passe de nouveau en mode sécurité J'ai changé l'huile et le filtre mais ça change rien Pourriez-vous m'aider

350Nm and around 300 hp. Same gearbox is on the old E36 M3. Fabien Rst has no idea what the hell is talking about..

If you uppgrade the clutchpacks that trans can prob take more hp and nm. Just the same as you would for a manual

If anyone cares i daily drove it 2.5 years without any troubles, just change the oil and filter and be gentle to them, they ll tell you what they dont like 😄.

Hello Sir MMWA, i need a help here. My dad's car is E90 320i year 2006 Automatic Trans. Why his car can't activate the Sport/Manual mode? I saw some videos that usually had happen to this BMW model and i has check it and didn't find any wires that snap. Could u help us with some tips or advices or in the video if that not disturbing you work. Thanks for the helps. Love ur tutorials.

+wojteks100 ZF offer a factory refurbished transmission for about 3000USD, given the over all state of wear this would be the best choice, or a good second hand one.

MMWA It is much like the gearbox, decent work which costs :) in Poland such a renovation in 4500 zł border which is 3 times less

+wojteks100 As luck would have it, the very same day i sent the car off to the junk yard, a second hand low milage identical ZF 5HP18 transmission was for sale very close to my house. I guarantee though it would never of appeared if I waited for one to show up...

Hello, I have the same box on my tds e34, it drives ok, only no shift 4->5 at max rpm/load. What bothers me is when I drive slow - 10-20 km/h it randomly clangs from underneath. It doesn't shift (it shouldn't), but as if occasionally something is throwing pebbles at the box (on a smooth road). Oil/filter changed, seals resealed all original. What are those sounds? Solenoids? Trash? One way valve beads? Lockup clutch? I hear it only when I drive near a wall, so the sound reflects, otherwise hard to hear from the cockpit.
