@Zflocco not even. A welcome suprise, really. And what with Doge being unable to upload consistently throughout the week anymore, looking for every avenue to hear as many new stories as soon as possible

Every time I hear stories about it, I always need to tap the sign: "Natural 20s on skill checks are not automatic successes, as some DC checks are not possible for some player characters to make regardless of how they roll." Also zflocco, power gamers are not inherently bad DMS. Nor is being competitive. It's how the person decides to act. Jerkholes are jerkholes, regardless of how sweaty they get

If even a 20 wouldn't succed then why even rolling?

@@Draco.Requiem that's a question for the DM. If the DC is so high a 20 plus the characters' mods can't beat it, then they shouldn't be making them roll, it's a waste of time. Either way, natural 20s are only auto successes for attack rolls rules as written to ensure there's always a 5 percent chance a creature can be hit, and a that same chance for a creature to dodge against the odds. It's backed up in lore by the goddess of luck maintaining balance this way

Story 3. I think everyone should get a chance, after all some do surprise you and are completely different as a DM (MOST are not, but occasionally you do get one who isn't the exact same as their player style). And this was Steve's chance. I know most people would now say that's it no more chances. I would not agree though. As you cannot become better if you are never allowed to. Steve may never get better. Steve has no right to demand these or other players allow Steve to be DM to get better. But we will never know if Steve could be a good DM eventually unless Steve keeps trying. I know I wasn't a good DM right off the bat and I am probably only a half decent one now. And even if Steve believes he is the best there is right now, he may change his mind down the road and develop a desire to change and be a better DM. But I'm a little more forgiving when it seems the DM is new to DM'ing.

There's a difference between being forgiving and being naive. According to the story, this guy just likes to power trip, he's not going to try to improve he just wants to be the one making things worse for everyone. He had his chance, and he blew it.

@@TigerW0lf Well Steve definitely won't improve if it doesn't matter to improve now will he. That is the fundamental problem with your argument. A self fulfilling course of action. If never give anyone another chance after they screw up, then there is no incentive to improve beyond what they already are.

@davidtherwhanger6795 HE DOESN'T WANT TO IMPROVE! Sadistic asshats like him think they can do no wrong and will die on the dumbest of hills. Improvement starts with the realization that there is room to grow. The fact that his DM style is similar to his playing style means he sees no fault in himself. They kicked him because he doubled down on his asshatery

@@davidtherwhanger6795 i can understand the devil''s advocate being played here. but the act of forgiving someone and giving them another chance is just that, a gift, not an obligation as a good person or good group. Steve has plenty of motivation to improve for next time. that motivation is to prevent this situation from happening again with another group. If he never DMs again it's not his old group's fault, it's his own. Good will is something once squandered is a titan of a task to win back. Steve will have to accept the fact that his will to improve will have to be motivated by not letting this happen again, if not then the world will continue to turn without him being a DM at all and arguing what could've been will continue to be semantics. Burned bridges are hard to rebuild, maybe he should have kept that in mind before lashing out on his group when given a bit of power.

@@lighthadoqdawg "Steve has no right to demand these or other players allow Steve to be DM to get better." This is more than about Steve. As you say yourself Steve's incentive to improve is that he will be given another chance to be DM for a group. I am arguing that that act must happen for the incentive to be present. Because many will say that Steve should never have another chance with any group ever again.
