It seems there is an increasing speed for devaluation of Canadian dollar against U.S. dollar. What should be done by the Government to reverse this trend! Please share your thoughts with us. Thanks!
Printing money can be done to finance the government. Why government still need to issue bonds? Because it wants to limit the supply of money. Otherwise, it's currency will loose its value. By issuing bond, because the buyer of the bonds parked their money to acquire the bonds, the money supply is neutralize. During an economic downturn, the government borrows money to do some business to stir up the economy, since no one is willing to take the risk to do that. However, under good economic condition, if the government continues to do that, it will create an overly heated economy, while jacking up the borrowing cost. This is exactly what the US is doing now, and it is not sustainable, because it compete with legitimate business for borrowers, and for employees. This is very harmful to the economy.
