The way the Japanese preserve their traditions and cultures (alongside their ability to innovate and create high technologies) is one of the most intriguing things in the humanities
@rzt4302 жыл бұрын
this is why i find it really unfortunate that most of the younger japanese people who live around places like these rich in culture would rather idolize the glitz and glamour of living in modern tokyo(imo the least japanese place in japan lol) which while indeed full of opportunities, has long since abandoned most of the positive sides of japanese culture. if this trend continues and other prefectures follow tokyo's example, which is more than likely with how the younger generation glorifies it, japan's culture as we know it will likely die with the older generation. traditional crafts like blacksmithing, traditional calligraphy and so on and even places like kyoto are already on the downfall right now and are almost purely reliant on a very numbered amount of loyal patrons and mostly tourism, which has been hurt severely by the pandemic that doesn't seem to be "ending" anytime soon
@googlesamsung5452 жыл бұрын
@@rzt430 thanks for the comment, I agree, but on balance Japan is doing far better in this regard than for example China and most other countries rich in their history and culture
@rzt4302 жыл бұрын
@@googlesamsung545 that's true. compared to its neighbours in east or even considering southeast asia as well, japan is the only country that has cleanly preserved its culture while being contemporary and advanced as well, which is all the more why i feel that it is very unfortunate that it is on the decline as what i consider to be the last bastion of preserving rich culture and tradition among first world countries which have mostly homogenized in many aspects nowadays

12:33 I met this man! I walked this trek between the two towns several years ago and he runs a rest stop at the midway point, he invites you in for some tea and a chat. It's like coming across a portal to another time, sitting in his traditional home in front of an open fire as he boils his kettle over it....himself sitting there with his kasa straw hat on.

Once again, we see you carefully unfold the beauty of this village and the remarkable valley it is situated in. We know how it is done but we don't know how you do it! Thank you, Anna. This video is a real gem. You take us down a wonderful path. I love the quaint homes, some are quite large. The delightful chaos of nature in its many colors. I love the straw horse, btw. Thanks to Anna, the glorious blossom of that fine day lives on. She films the walk as if we were on it, taking in the scenery, looking around us as we go. The post road and villages are immaculately maintained and the forest seems almost like a garden! Fortunately, although at the start we were warned of their presence, no bear appears. Only cats, leisurely guarding their spacious property.

I would absolutely *love* to start from one end of Japan and walk to the other just to take in all of the scenery and visit with people. Especially the artisans; Carpentry, Blacksmithing, Pottery, Painting, Husbandry, Farming, the whole lot. I have a deep, deep *love* for learning. Not by books or videos but by slow, methodical, hands-on learning. Everything about life, to me, is nuance, and you don't get *any* of that from a book.

I have formuled such a wish like a decade ago I think. Actually, I would love to do that during decades, and going back in time whenever I want to not go too far in the futur, and then continue my trip with peace in mind (knowing that the country isn't changing too much). I would love to do that across many centuries to be honest, to see and experience how it was back in the time. I just hope I/we will be able to do such thing in the afterlife, it would litteraly be heaven.

I enjoyed the smooth shots, the game of light and shadows between the trees and a blossoming sakura. Static images of unexpected nice details, the beauty of nature and architecture , the overall peace and harmony. That all underpinned by well-chosen music. My favorite samurai Toshiro Mifune disappeared from my sight somewhere on the forest trails of Kisoji. It's shame,I wanted to invite him for tea to Ichikoku-tochi Tateba Tea House 😉.
