you are who you are, i am who i am,,, we all be called life. everything existing is a collection of energy and keep exchanging energy with other existing things. life can be called a thing but keep exchanging energy with the world around it. we are a time varying dynamic system created and evolved from unknowable energy but named energy.
People often make up a difference, or even dichotomy, between "old" (sacrosant, pious, time-sanctioned/"zeitgeheiligten" etc.) and "new" (post-modern, cyborgian etc.) "teachings" - the ones mystifying the old ways, the other going staunch scientifistic ("szientifistisch"). I personally prefer a kind of middle way, e.g. trying to understand thinking-nonthinking methods like chándìng, certain Yoga-practices, or intensive prayingn (oratio)/contemplatio/meditatio etc. by phenomenological means (in a wider sense). Futhermore, history ("realistic" and "transcendental" in the Husserlian vein) can/should/may serve as a kind of lithmus-test for any biased, exaggerated or - speaking in a more general term - "particularly universal" ideological (german.: "weltanschauliche", i.e. regarding ones view towards/of the world) Claims.

Meditation definitely helps prevent alzheimer and parkinson. How many buddhist monks have you seen with these diseases?
