To view JJ as showy because of some songs he had performed is bias. It really depends on the songs. Some of the covers he did he arranged them according to the theme or rules set by the program organisers. He did not have much of a choice.
I have never thought him to be a super good singer. But he is a very good songwriter and being paired by an excellent lyricist, the songs come alive through his unique delivery. His vocals, tbh, just about average. But his songs are so unique yet catchy and that made him so popular for so many years.

if u listen to "feng" "fa ru xue" "tian ya guo ke" etc. he can hit those high notes tho! oh and don't forget "ju hua tai" live performance whereby he will belt out the high notes at the end

Compared to EP1 and EP2, this is surprisingly unbiased, professional, rational and detailed. Although I obviously don't fully agree with or comprehend certain comments, overall I can relate to her analysis in this video.
The reason why that Vegas music (迷迭香) was cheesy because that kind of music was from the western. But it was not a main stream music for Asian/Chinese community, hence when that song came out, it was like a fresh take from Jay Chou.
I super agreed all her comments about a great singers, or not....🙏🏻✌🏻🥰👍🏻

While I think it's admirable to go into an artist blind without any research beforehand, I believe you are doing yourselves, your audience, and the artist in question a disservice by not providing yourself proper context regarding the artist having already made numerous videos about them, ie GEM and now Jay. This is not to say that your opinions are wrong or anything because I think you are very correct in your critiques about his singing, and as a vocal coach I don't expect you to take anything else into consideration but his singing capabilities. The context is that Jay is not a vocalist, he never aspired to be one and was never trained to be one. All he ever wanted to be was a music producer and had never thought of being in the spotlight until he was discovered on that variety show from ep.1, he was only there to support his friend who was the one that actually entered the contest, the host saw something in Jay, gave him the mic, and signed Jay to his label. His singing has always been serviceable at best, what he brings musically and culturally far exceeds his singing shortcomings.

有沒有人注意到57:47,老師說“You want it more?”的時候,中文的cc字幕是「你還沒霍夠?」XDD

When Jay first started his career in music all of the established vocalists in the Mandarin music world were like you so it's normal because this is your first time coming into contact with his music 😂 As time goes by his singing was slowly accepted by the vocal trainers as they realizes his strongest ability isn't singing but his exceptional ability in composing. He is regarded as a genius in piano and composing music not for his singing. He first started out as a song writer for other singers. Many already famous singers rejected his work because they are too difficult to sing and too different from the mainstream music. So he took back his own work and sang them himself and his first album was a hit. His music style revolutionized the Mandarin music industry, which were mainly pop music. He put many established singers out of job at that time 😂 and he single handedly revived the Mandarin music industry which was going down hill He is known to be perfect pitch (absolute pitch) No other Mandarin singers are. This is the reason he is currently the top in Mandarin music industry. (With due respect) Sure there are many better singers than him like jj but those singers can't create music like him
