Taking the Zhiyun X60 RGB lights out into the real world on a shoot! Are the Good or Bad?! Can a professional cinematographer use them to get the looks they get with larger lights?
If you're interested in buying the X60 RGB combo package I'm using here grab it at my affiliate link -
uk.zhiyun-tech...
Or more general Zhiyun products here -

I will get a percentage of sales from these links.
My goal with this shoot was to be able to carry everything I needed in one trip! This limitation meant not bringing lots of stands etc. and instead using clamps and small selfie stick stands to achieve the positions I wanted for the lights.
Generally speaking if I'm after a simple but pleasing look for a project a soft light source from the opposite side to the camera will get me most of the way there!
To achieve this with two hard lights would either mean bring in modifiers OR bouncing the light off surfaces in the location, which is what I ended up doing. It is a very simple way of quickly getting a workable level of light that will usually be OK looking. You sacrifice a certain amount of control and finesse with this approach, however you can work quickly and if you know what you're looking for it's possible to get a solid look out of it.

Not all stainless is magnetic. Depends on the alloy/grade and how it has been worked. With that aside, for small scale shoots like this 60s are great. I have several of the Nanlites which come in handy a lot though battery operated they aren’t compact as the Zhiyun. On another note, I can’t say I understand your color grade choices in this piece. Perhaps pushing the red-orange mix in the food to bring out the tomatoes and a to give the pastry a more golden buttery feel makes sense, but that seems to have spilled over to the skin tones and to my eye, the cooks looks rather tomato-y themselves. Maybe it fits their brand? Not sure. But at least on KZbin the skin doesn’t look real or natural.

Ha the magnetism was definitely more of an artist over scientist moment 🤣 Colour grade isn’t the final grade for the piece, actually this is going to be in another video, talking about the the new film look builder and colour slice tools in Resolve. In that I’m going to run a comparison between some standard conversions as well as the standard film look etc. and also how it compares to film convert. It definitely loses some of the bright vibrancy of the greens and reds in the food 🙌

@@Dale_Campbell I’m finishing the last three scenes for my new proof of concept and looking forward to playing around with the look builder in the coming weeks. Have you found 19 to be reasonably stable for a point-oh release?

@@waveland I’ve edited the last few videos on here in it and haven’t had any issues. But not tested it exhaustively…. So far smooth sailing 😬

Thanks for this, I just bought the X100 and X60RGB as I needed something portable. I have a couple of questions - do you have the X100? As my battery grip when attached to it is a little loose, where as the X60RGB is solid. This was on two X100 units as I sent one back due to an issue, that and the new one were a little wobbly. The X60 battery on the X100 is solid, so it must be the x100 battery design! Or somehow I got two faulty ones Secondly, I was torn between the X60 and X60RGB, the price difference was only £60 for the pro kit. I went with the RGB as I thought it would be useful to have more options, although it isn't as bright. And now when comparing 2700k on my X100 and the X60RGB they don't look very close at all, which is a little worrying What was your experience with the colour accuracy? And why did you choose the X60RGB over the bi colour? Sorry for all my questions! Thanks
