This song meant so much to him due to his childhood experience because of his voice and got bullied and even now some people use cyber bullying him and they think his voice sounds like a woman. He got that bully when he was young and I don't think it is fair he still got this kind of cruel behaviour from a lot of people out there. Luckily no matter how many others out there saying those bad things but he still have tons of fans still supporting him. Thank you for still interested to react to him. Thanks.

The stage was the annual party for Bilibili app which was one of the largest video app in China. Zhou Shen was invited to perform for the show 4 years in a roll.

For me, I really like Zhou Shen because his singing has a certain sincerity to it. He doesn’t flex, he doesn’t belt out high notes just because he can (which he definitely can), but his songs are telling a story. Sometimes, like in this song, it’s his story. He can be very emotional when he sings. There’s a song titled The Rose Youth (玫瑰少年) where he cried on stage right after the song ended and couldn’t stop because the song touched too deep into his reality. He said when he was younger he didn’t think of his voice like a gift (which is something he also said right before singing This Is Me), but what rose doesn’t have thorns and people never ask the roses whether they really want to grow thorns, and in the end people always see someone who is different as either very weak or very strong. He said that people like to say that Zhou Shen is so great, he can sing ANY song, he’s amazing, but then if one day he failed to produce something great will people hate him then? I think it’s really amazing that he manages to come on top of his insecurities and use his double-edged sword as his greatest weapon.

This is me is a very meaningful song to Zhou Shen, because he loved to sing very much when he was a child. When he was a teenager, others had changed his voice, but he was still a girl's voice, so he was always ridiculed, bullied, and not tall. He is often said to be a ladyboy, so This is me is to encourage him to move forward. He is like this, to accept that he is different from others, and this difference may become the greatest weapon.

So happy that non Asians are noticing Charlie Zhou Shen. His voice is unique and never really changed after puberty so that is why he still sounds like a female. I think he knows some English but that does not make a difference when singing. He sings beautifully in Chinese too.

thank you for your sincere reaction to Zhou Shen. He's really one of a kind! Just a trivia, he sang this song twice before on a social media live (those kinds where you sit in your room and sing in front of your phone). He cried before while singing because the lyrics were very relatable to his experiences growing up. Anyways! Understand that you guys want something "crazy" or "amazing" from him. He has mentioned before how his voice is a double-edged sword because people expect him to be more than "great". Although, I do agree I'm spoilt by how amazing his vocal skills are, give yourself time to pace and explore his songs~ Perhaps, even the quieter genres will touch you~ :D

So this was performed at a award and New Years kind of show it wasn’t his own private one. BUT I went to one of his private ones before and there was still a bunch of people like it was maxed out with the statium holding like 30000 to 40000 people and for the statium this isn’t even the nicest one there was one where he did a concert and there was like fireworks and like stuff flying around. for popular he’s probably like top 3 most famous singers in China he has won at least one award every year starting from 2014 which was big fish that year. Even though he is not number 1 most popular he is definitely the current the most loved one by far I have never seen him have haters ever. Because you can’t really say anything about him and that’s why I really like him. He just wants to sing and singing is what he does

Hey, Brian and Jason, thanks for the reaction, love your reaction to Zhoushen as always, he was quite emotional singing this song coz what’s told in the lyrics somehow represents what he’s been through. It’s not that difficult to him, but def he feels it. And that’s also why he chose that song to perform. Telling others that after all what happened, he accepts how he is. He even cried in one of the live streams that he does for free on his birthday every year as a token for appreciating his fans has been around even when he was nobody, singing this song thinking about the hardship all the way, you know singing like a female as a male, and being not tall and no strings to pull at all. And beside all that, I have been confused about the word” boat “ when you said how the high school student was trying but not trying, just curious about that. Cheers!

Great reaction. I agree that it wasn’t the most challenging song for him but I think it has a great meaning for him due to his past bullying and people putting him down (much as it for the film character). This was the first time I’ve seen this rendition and I think there is a better version of him singing it.
