Dieses Video stellt die einzig noch vorhandene Straßenbahnstrecke von Zhytomyr dar, dies nahezu lückenlos von Ost nach West. Zum Einsatz kommen fast nurnoch Tatra KT4SU, sowie die letzten beiden T4SU (Reservewagen). Die Gleisanlagen sind leider sehr verschlissen, was für die Fahrzeuge nicht gerade förderlich ist. Ergänzt wird der Stadtverkehr durch ein größeres O-Busnetz, auf welches in diesem Video aber nur kurz eingegangen wird - im Einsatz stehen dort neben zahlreichen ZiU-9 noch verschiedene erst gebraucht übernommene Škoda-Trolleybusse.

Thanks for the video, it is pretty unusual to see my town to be filmed by foreigners :) The tram railways exist in Zhytomyr for more than 100 years - the first freight tram was launched in 1897, the first passenger tram was launched in 1899. One of those oldest tram wagons can be seen in the video occasionally. It is launched on holidays only and it usually carries children to have fun. There were 5 tram routes, that existed up to 1950-s. Since 1955 they started replacing trams with trolleybuses, probably because of the cheaper maintance. Only one tram route left by now, it goes from the town center to the outskirts. The modern condition of Zhytomyr's trams is just sad, and there are several reasons for it. Firstly, the tram fares are very low - about 8 cents for a ride - and that's cheap even for Ukraine. Most of the passengers are pensioners and they have a right of free ride. That free ride has to be refunded to the tram operating company by the government, but that doesn't always happen as intended - the passengers who ride for free are not registered, with their amounts are basically unknown. So the tram operating company is always short of money. Another reason is that the route is not very popular - about a half of it goes through areas with small households. And you can get to the most of the places where tram goes by trolleybus or bus. Also the town government doesn't have money for the complete reconstruction of tracks. They say it would be cheaper to replace the trams with the trolleybuses. But for now, nothing changes. I love trams very much, it is my favourite kind of public transport. They always remind me of my childhood - those cute Tatra T4, painted red and yellow make me nostalgic. i hope, trams will be in Zhytomyr forever :)

There's a sort of rustic charm to a lot of these systems in places a lot of people have probably never heard of that don't look as if they've received any investment since the days of the USSR. Some of that rocking and rolling looks quite alarming. Some quite nice liveries though.

Ich möchte auch mal so schön durch Zhytomyr schaukeln :-) Der Betrieb gehört ja zweifelos zu den liebenswerten Kleinbetrieben, deren Wagenpark ja zum Teil sehr geschmackvoll und abwechslungsreich Lackiert ist. At first, have many thanks for your great work, I've been watching your videos since years. You documented quite a few tram systems that have not been documented in good quality by anyone else so far. Now I have a question: at 14:58 in this film there is a previous generation tram car. Something like this is only rarely seen in the east beyond the few "richer" eastern European countries like Poland or Romania. Is there a tram museum society in Zhytomyr, or was it some sort of regular service? (I'm writing in English so that all viewers can understand question and answer.)

Danke a lot Manni! :-) Nice to read about your words about my channel! I like to make videos about systems and try to make it compleetely at all places of the network. Bust mostly not so easy in holidays (mainpoint is photography and not video). But such a video is nice to see years later, so you can enyoj the sounds and moves, which are not catches at pictures! The older tramcar is a nostalgic tram, which are rebuild of an old german "Gotha-Tramcar" - there is only a other case! A trammuseum isnt there in Zhytomyr, but some are worked in company for history! :-) Its a nice and very interesting city!

Sehr engagierte Leute dort, herrlich! :) Die Stadt scheint auch interessant zu sein, sie hat jedenfalls eine reiche Geschichte. Definitiv ein interessantes Reise(zwischen)ziel.

It should be noticed that most of these trams use an odd type of current collector calked BOW COLKECTOR that is curved instead of flat. Thus enBles continued contact with overhead, even where tram rocks from side to side greatly.

I live in this town. The tram line here is too small and trams are very old. They rumble at every joint. Die Straßenbahnstrecke hier ist sehr kurz und schlecht ausgebaut. Sehr alte Autos, die bei jeder Beule abstürzen

@@KT4Dani in Lviv you can rent any tram you want. Electron, Tatra KT4, Tatra T4, Gotha, Sanok. Sanok SN1 one of the last in the world.

Nein, die Straßenbahn fährt noch ganz normal. Das der Betrieb irgendwann eingestellt werden wird ist absehbar...allerdings gibt es da noch keinerlei zeitliche Festlegung. Das mit der Angabe 2021 stammt sicher wieder von irgendwelchen Fans als gestreutes Gerücht.
