Indianapolis resident here, it is possible to recognize the building in the middle of the screen in that round if you're from here, as it is our most prominent monument, although it's quite far off in the distance and not really something you'd recognize if you weren't from here. That combined with the odd zooming behavior makes me really think that one was a scripting job. If you did recognize the building, you'd zoom in for the 5k because it's extremely easy to find on the map if you recognize it.

The Indianapolis one is textbook scripting. You had basically an identical case in your last video. Instantly space plonk on the 5k then zoom in and move it off slightly to seem less suspicious. If you were from Indianapolis and recognised it you would zoom in first and find the building, then click for the 5k.

The Argentinian round seemed very normal to me? lol they saw "En Ar Sa" and thought maybe the Ar meant Argentina but weren't sure, looked around to try to confirm Argentina, checked the sky to see what hemisphere the sun was in, then decided to just guess the capital, and put it close to the water bc they had water to the NE, and they weren't even particularly close. It's really scary that the pros get to judge amateur players and think that the player not playing the way that a pro would is "suspicious."

Totally agree. Ever since this feature was introduced it has seemed very sketchy to me. I'm not cheating and have never been accused of cheating, but I'm just waiting for a message at login saying like "you have been found guilty of cheating and your account has been suspended." While playing rounds now I'm constantly moving, more than I feel necessary, to remove as much doubt as possible. Because god forbid I actually guess a 5k.
@olenilsen46602 ай бұрын
Yeah, that´s a horrible decision - given the precision of the guess, the time they spent, this is more than likely just a noob, or anyone that doesn´t take the game all that seriously. But first of all, on a pinpoint game, getting just about the right country but a few hundred miles away - that report should be rejected right off the bat! Now, I have no problems with a lot of the other ones, and also being restrictive about banning someone based on one single location, but this one was blatantly obvious, not a cheat. @Zi8gzag - take notes ;) I love your plays, your channels, your politeness. But if you want to keep doing this thing, please consider calibrating your compass to match the mass of the Geoguessr players. It´s probably ages ago for you, but we´ve all been noobs at one point. And I can still remember I did these dumba$$ things, and still got a lucky guess sometimes.

Sure, but if you´ve played GG for quite some time, you´ll learn that most of your assumptions like that will be wrong. In this case, ENARSA is Argentina´s own power company. Nothing to do with England or English, just Energy. SA is a company structure, this is very common around the world, that a company name includes sth like SA, AS, AB, LTD or whatever, based on the structure of said company. Ar was right though, but based on your comment, if you got that, it was blind luck. You might as well have ended up guessing EN like England, or SA like South Africa. It´s possible that the person reported here, already knew the company, though. That would give them the right country, but guessing a wilderness location like this, and putting the marker down in their capital? I wouldn´t do that, and it´s just another reason to free this person from any blame.

I did all of the investigations available to me (I was chosen for the anti cheater program due to my "high rating") and I can even say I judged every single round visible in the two zigzag videos by myself. So they're definitely collecting quite a lot of judgements for any of these rounds. I also think (and hope) that people don't get banned for a single suspicious round since it is quite imaginable that some rounds though looking suspicious can be legit. I'd expect them to check the players of rounds getting flagged as cheated by a majority a bit closer. Like looking themselves at the round how it would be cheated, checking other reported rounds by that player flagged as cheated or not enough evidence, checking unreported rounds (especially from the same games) if it's not very obvious by then etc..

I'm pretty sure I recognise the first round you looked at from another channel that was reviewing potential cheating. It's good to know that multiple pros are reviewing each incidence, rather than relying on just one. While it can be super obvious if a player is scripting, it seems like googling can be harder to determine, and I only expect it to get even harder as cheaters react to this new review system and start trying to obscure the fact that they're googling. A few commenters have been saying that it would be good to be able to see the player's ranking, but given that this system is new, I thought that might obscure some cheating, since some cheaters may have been doing it so long that they have reached a high ranking. I think it would be better to show the ranking of the player who reported it, as this could help highlight instances of a newbie reporting an experienced player because they just don't understand how someone could find the right part of the world when there's no signs or flags around, for example.

As far as I'm aware your internet is not actually to blame for the black screens in the moving replay, I think it is just a replay thing where the moving between panos at such speed is not picked up by the feature itself.

I'm gonna be honest, if not for the weird jump and pause after it I totally would've believed the la Línea de la Concepción round could be legit. The town's proximity to Gibraltar makes it one of those tidbits of geography knowledge that you really don't need specific Geoguessr knowledge for, and I know if I had gotten it I'd be zooming in almost immediately...

Some of the ones that look like they shouldn't have gotten reported are either sore losers who got salty after a few rounds of bad guesses or they meant to report an earlier round as cheating but did it too late.

bit of an unrelated comment but it is funny to me as a nova scotian that double yellow is a bit of a meta for here because when i was first getting into geoguessr and heard "double yellow more common in usa, single yellow in canada" i was like wtf no all our highways are double yellow here lol

Most people, like me, would even struggle to find a famous building in their own city. But, I would definitely zoom in as much as possible, instead of clicking somewhere in the city center. At least, I would try to find an intersection. But he did the opposite. Initial guess was spot on, but he manually moved away. If that is not cheating, not sure what is.

As a low rated player who can read cyrillic and lives in Kentucky, I'm just waiting to get bopped by someone who thinks I shouldn't be able to tell where Nizhny Novgorod is when there's a sign for the university at the spawn point

I know it's a late comment, but if someone's watching and wondering about Russia case. As a russian citizen, I can say, that if the person is from Russia, they made the most reasonable choice, even without taking post-codes into account. There is an '-nn ru' part of a SPAR ad domain, it's a common practice to mark larger cities into domain (such as MSK for Moscow, SPB for Saint Petersburg, NSK for Novosibirsk, etc.), an NN stands for Nizhny Novgorod 99% of time (as a Russia, I can't even think of another city it can stand for). And ALSO there is an ad to the right with "ННГУ -- УНИВЕРСИТЕТ С КОТОРЫМ СТРОИШЬ ЖИЗНЬ" on the right. It's an ad for ННГУ (Nizhny Novgorod State University), one of the most well-known universities in the country and one of a few national research universities. They have pointed exactly into Nizhny Novgorod after seeing two obvious hints into it, and not Arzamas.

The last Arg round could have been me. I recognize the large factory building with EN AR SA on it. If it was me, then the "irratic" camera movement was me trying to find the sun's location. Argentina was a hint i got from ENARSA and I wanted to confirm south of the equator by trying to find the sun. Buenos Aires was the natural place to go once I had decied on Argentina. Being a pro and veteran, I think you overestimate the general knowledge among leisure players. I had no knowledge on Arg having double yellow lines at that point in time.Coming so far as region guessing is nothing I manage to do or perhaps once in 20 rounds or so. I'm never Google in competative games, only in the Daily challenge and when playing solo. Mostly to learn more.

So something you should know when looking for scripters is that they put their marker on the 5k immediately and then click off, if you see where their marker was originally you can tell that it was directly where the location actually ended up being so that is guilty in my books.
