Can’t understand why a lot of carpers aim to leave the lead on the lake bed. I always have a free running lead cos the main line is always going go first then the lead will drop or I get all my tackle back. If I loose any is normally down to snags on the bottom

It's terrible to leave lead if the water and I can't imagine it's cheap. Do people ever retrieve the leads?
