Great method for beginners! If you feel like trying something a bit harder. Blend both colours together while wet without doing the first stage. It saves a lot of time but it takes a bit more skill. Happy painting!

That's a very clever technique,...When blurring the edges, would you wait for the painted vase to dry first or does that matter?
@PaintyKat6 жыл бұрын
Yes. You have to wait until first layer will dry completely. When you working on blurring you can pain as many layers as you want but be sure to dry layers between each each other ❤
@christophermccarthy94976 жыл бұрын
I’m confused, in the video it says it’s more difficult to blend when it dries and the acrylic dries fast. Here you are saying let it dry first... which one is it?
@PaintyKat6 жыл бұрын
The first layer (colored by numbers) have to be dry. The second layer (where we blending colors on canvas) we need to mix colors on canvas fast coz it's drying fast and its possible to blend only when colors wet still.
@Cryoblizzard7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for making these videos. This is exactly how these paint by numbers kits should be done. Most people are too careful and follow the rules too closely when they paint them. The result is that their paintings look flat, dead and boring. They all look the same. Blurring the colours makes the paintings beautiful and give them some life and personality. Plus, you actually learn some things about how to paint. Do you use retarder? Do you ever run out of paint?
@PaintyKat7 жыл бұрын
I use retarder a lot when I re-painting "by number" closer to original paintings. For just by-number result retarder not needed but for as you noticed correct for "life and personality" - yeah I love it!

So usually they recommend doing one color n finishing it throughout the canvas. With this technique it seems it would be better to do sections with multiple colors to blend as u are doing w the vase rather than completing one color throughout the entire canvas n coming back? Any thoughts? Ive just started these again as a adult n were always blotchy when i was younger from what i remember, ive started with the one color at a time method but im just beginning so i definitely have time to switch that technique. ...

@andreiamendes2724 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this video PaintyKat. I'm about to start my frist Paint by number kit in a canvas and I have read that it's recomendable to start with the darkest colours and to paint one by one colour. However, I'm afraid this will not able to smudge th areas, since they will be dry when I complete each area with the lighter colours. What advise do yuo have for this? Do you paint by sections and smudge them before they dry out?
@PaintyKat4 жыл бұрын
I don't recommend blend the first DIY at all. Blending possible to add at any time. Here vase was colored first, dried, blended at the second layer. Possible to blend it on the first layer - but it needs some practice.
@andreiamendes2724 жыл бұрын
@@PaintyKat thank you! I have been painting also thick on the first layer because I thought it would only have one. Ill paint thinner and at the seconds layer will blurr it 😊
@biconguy3 ай бұрын
Not rocket science…it just takes time and patience. Another tip: when painting very thin areas, thin the paint slightly and simply put a tiny dot of paint INSIDE the thin line. Then go back with the same brush - or an even thinner brush - and precisely connect the dots by dragging the paint. The detailed paintings are particularly challenging and time consuming to do but are well worth the effort for patient souls especially y when given as a gift.

@pattybips55194 жыл бұрын
So on top of the two years it takes you to get the damn painting done you go back and blur the lines for another year or so. I am working on one now but it will probably be my last. also the paints are so thick they need a serious amount of flow improver and water to lay them down
@PaintyKat4 жыл бұрын
Blending and blurring going fast. As for me, painting 40x50 taking 2-3 days to complete. "Zigzag" blurring is just one way to blend colors - here some more. I prefer to paint with "freestyle blending" - blend colors on the first layer. "Zigzag" blurring is good for beginners as the first step from a painting by numbers only to more artistic style of it

I bought my first drawing by numbers 2 months ago and today I discovered your channel. I still didn't finished it because the picture I choose is so fucking detailed. Of course I followed the lines and did not blend anything. Do you think it makes sense to use blending technique if the picture is very detailed. I mean in some areas I could use this technique but in most of the areas the spaces are so tiny and there are so many fields that you would simply overdraw all the fields. I don't know if you understand what I mean. To be honest at the moment I don't like my painting at all because you have those hard color edges. But in my case this zigzag technique seems very hard

My blue color is very strange. It is the "Ocean" blue (about the same color as the "comment" button). But it is so THIN. And when it is dry I can't spread it well. It's strange, some of my other colors, like Jade green, Cornflower blue, mauve (purple) are wonderful. They cover well, they spread well, no problem. But this Ocean blue doesn't cover well and when it dries, it doesn't spread well. Even I try to mix it and it seems to be too thin if I do. How can you make the paint the best for covering and spreading, without being too thin?
@PaintyKat6 жыл бұрын
Amount of coverage can be different and depends on color. What is possible to do: 1. Create white layer under "Ocean" blue. First paint with white there - where you need to get clear "Ocean" blue. White need to be dry - and after paint with blue. 2. You can use "thickener for acrylic paint". Mmmm ... I havnt English video about how to use it, but I have on another langue: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHa7hHRurMxsnLc&ab_channel=Anurisui Watch from 22:05. Its white liquid, possible to mix it with brush - but I prefer palette knife more. Mix with color you need and you ll get better coverage.

For people who can paint composition it traditional way - no need for this tutorials, but a lot of people cant paint shape of vase for exapmle! A paint by number kit isn't supposed to need skill but alright.
@PaintyKat7 жыл бұрын
All paintings by numbers can be done without any blend and blur. Basic level skill to paint is enough for it. But some DIY paintings need better skills. Kits are so different. Dimensions by numbers required blending and color mixing, same - color ds for Rmixing neeavensburger, some of Plaid, Royal and Langnickel kits. Also simple kits on canvas looking better with blended sky for example - more realistic and accurate.
@CB-jv6cj7 жыл бұрын
PaintyKat I understand but what is the point in buying a kit that won't really look that nice without blending. I just ordered my first painting by number kit and it looks so beautiful even without blending, or at least on the picture. I don't really see the point in buying one that really needs it to be fair.

Paint by numbers is the most special Olympic shit I ever seen. Imagine of being proud of something that micromanages where and what each color is, draws it for you, hell, even comes with the mixed paint to fit the detailing. Doesn't surprise me that gen Z is picking up on this, they are not known for lacking talent or motivation to succeed 🤣
@prettyboy95727 жыл бұрын
If you’re going to teach someone on how to paint, please make sure to use the correct terminology. It’s called blending... not blurring. You don’t want to blur things together because it will look sloppy. Blending gives a nice and even tone to the whole painting. Don’t forget to reference the different light sources in the painting to get the desired color and depth.
@PaintyKat7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advice. English is not my native language, but I'm learning :-) I will consult with native English speaker person
@PaintyKat7 жыл бұрын
I consulted with native English speaker - its exactly "blurring". Same - blur - we can find in Photoshop filters. Blending is more about color mixing, but here we have to blur sharp edges between two areas already colored. So we not blending new colors in plastic containers - we blurring borderline between two areas with different colors.
@Avenged6666 жыл бұрын
its blending...photoshop and canvas have different rules, but either way, wht youre doing is blending in that video.
