What is the ride in the K or k custom family that is the heaviest and most pingy of them. I know they stopped making the k heavy ride. So I'm looking for other k ride options. Thanks
@isihernandez9752
@isihernandez9752 Жыл бұрын

I know this is an older video but...My son is 7 and has special needs (Williams Syndrome)... He watches this video every single day before a school and also falls asleep to it at night. He absolutely loves it. He claps along with the beats and makes me do it to! He knows the name of every single cymbal and can identify them by sound. His favorite is Mega! Thank you for making such a fantastic video!

Really appreciate having such a massive back-to-back-to-back comparison of all of these rides, especially with consistent volume levels of the kit and beat. That helps give an impression for each cymbal's sound, and how loud it is in context to the other rides. Videos that showcase just one ride make it hard to hear that comparison to other rides to know if one is bigger, louder, softer, drier, brighter, darker, etc.

It's not gunna change the sound of the cymbal really all that much at all. The only thing hes doing by cranking it down is adding more attack and killing the overtones which make it incredibly difficult to get an accurate EQ that reflects each cymbal properly. In studio it's fine to push your flets down a bit more, and most smaller studios will make you do it because otherwise the cymbals (especially the ride) wash out the entire mix. You keep your felts loose when playing live because you need your cymbals to cut through the rest of the mix and you don't have to worry about overtones at all. I think it's also because he's playing with a rack that obviously holds more cymbals and doesn't want them colliding with one another and he's reduced the amount of cymbals for this video to show the ride off better. That may just be speculation, but overall I really don't think he's altering the tone in any meaningful way for most peoples ears. It might matter more for high end recordings where certain frequencies need to be more strictly monitored, but I don't think for a youtube videos purpose that it makes any audible difference.
@lpjdrummer12295
@lpjdrummer12295 4 жыл бұрын
@@Southboundpachyderm tightening down cymbals like that is the no. 1 reason they break on the bell. So much shock is absorbed in that area (especially if you crash) that you soften the material to the point it breaks. Keep them loose, in fact not using the wing nut altogether is probably the best thing for your cymbals.

I must own about ten of these cymbals, same model, same size, and with one exception (the Kerope 22”), they all sound utterly different. Tobias, thank you for the excellent comparison, and it helps a great deal for many of us who can't test play these cymbals ourselves. I am thinking about buying a new ride that has a more distinct "ping" sound. I have a 21 in. Zildjian Rock ride that is over 30+ years old. It's still good, but the district ping is not as strong as I'd like. I think the one that I like is the 21 in. A Mega Bell Ride. It's "ping" is quite strong. I can't believe some of these rides are close to, if not more than, 3 bills each! I know the Mega Bell ride retails for about $325, not including tax and shipping. Thank you for the comparisons! @Assimilator702
@Assimilator702 5 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Sims I’m not so sure it’s the same B20 alloys the Big boys use. There’s a lack of resonance in the Wuhan cymbals I don’t hear in any but the cheapest cymbals. I have 4 Wuhan 12” China cymbals I got cheap and they’re great for quick short and trashy blasts. And that’s the ONE THING they do well. But there no breath of frequencies you get in a Sabian, Zildjian, Paiste, UFIP, Byzance, Meinl, etc..... The lack of sensitivity at low volume playing suggests the Chinese aren’t rolling the Bronze ignots several times and creating the tension needed for complex tonality that we pay big $$$$ for. They do the minimum to get a one dimensional tone and not much else.
@Jeremy_Sims
@Jeremy_Sims 5 жыл бұрын
Joe Rico I’m not completely sure of what your saying when it comes to the alloy thing tbh Joe... B20 sheet metal, is B20 sheet metal 80% copper 20% tin. As long as it’s in the category of B20 there’s not much leeway within the percentages.... I do understand what you mean with the China’s not being able to sing at low volumes super easy, but I don’t believe that’s a Wuhan thing, that’s just because, we’ll it’s a China lol they take a little time to break in, really it takes any cymbal from any brand time to break in, all cymbals sound a tiny bit different over time. And hey, if the guy is in a pinch with money Wuhans are still worth they’re fair price if you ask me, they literally have (even if you do feel it’s not the exact same as Zildjian k’s for example) better quality at its price point than say Zildjian Zbts at the same price. And I’ll 1 Up you even more, check out Zultan Cymbals man even more variety of sounds, more consistent to the sound tests and still mad cheap 👍💯

Damn they must have thinned out the Rock Ride since the redesign in 2013. I have a 1996 and you cannot Crash on it. It give a belly gong sound. Great stick definition and awesome bell....but no crash.

Thanks bro for taking the time to make this video for all of us… Fir my money I love the regular 20 inch k ride the best… it’s got the perfect amount of ping and wash and probably on of the best bell sounds imo….

What DW snare are you playing? I see the heads used and you've got mics top and bottom. Great thud! I can't hear the cymbals as much as I'd like except for the bells and crashes (which sound compressed).

With the exception to the special use rides like the extra dry and the flat rides, you really can't go wrong with anything here. I have a 20" K Custom Medium, though it wasn't on this list, and its really just a slightly brighter version of the 22" K Custom Medium Dark. In fact, they even have the same hammering patterns as well as the chisel chipping that I have no see on any other cymbals. Except the K custom medium and K Custom Dark. Has an amazing bell. Cuts right through the soul.

14:18 This K Overhammered thing is just phenomenal in my book. Discrete yet present, arty with smooth complex overtones and the most important thing, the bell is set back like a Rolls Royce turning signal not like a tin alarm. Less is more. If only had a big more ping definition... 12:26 Honorable mention: Addresses the ping definition of the Overhammered K but it`s not quite up there in style, although very close.

I’m more of a fan of the niche cymbals towards the end of the video. I have a k high definition 22” and I love it even though pretty much everyone I know hates it. That’s the way it is, but if a cymbal makes you play differently then that is totally worth it

Thanks for making a great video, about half a million bucks of a setup. Glad to know that the hundred bucks I spent on my PAISTE Alpha heavy ride 20 was well spent as I still like it more than these. Amazing how some of the real expensive k customs look and sound like a garbage can lid, apart from having a decent bell sound.

No, they just are darker and dryer cymbals which plenty of people like. So it's not suprising they are costly.

I love my 20 K Dark ride. The only problem I have with it...It sounds awful if ya wanna crash off is. Besides that it's solid, nice bell, great attack for being "dark". I also have a 20 projection. It's nice. Very versatile. I really want that Hybrid 21 inch K. That has everything I'm looking for in a ride. I like to test several of the same cymbals before I pick one, as each have different sounds. Sometimes very! That flat ride was not my cup of tea...Maybe if I used multiple rides, but I like to bring the bare minimum thaf will get me through a show

As much as I love my Z custom Mega Bell ride, I do think the Avedis ping ride and Paiste Signature series rides produce the best all around sound. It is so brilliant and really captures the attack from the stick. I do also really love the Earth ride tho too.
