One thing to keep in mind is that cymbals never come with their own stands.

I just purchased these. Nice review. A few comments. These cymbals are designed to be fairly quiet. I was able to play last night with my wife asleep in our bedroom with no complaints. The reduction in volume from regular cymbals is about 80%. I have a sound shield and a tapestry on my wall as well to absorb sound. I have used electronic drumsets of one form or another for many years. These cymbals are great, this is the closest I've felt to playing a real kit on an electronic one.

Yes, I realized that after I did a some research. I suppose there would be no reason to want to trigger other cymbal sounds as the ones with the Gen 16 will suffice and would be recorded into the DAW as audio tracks. Thanks for replying back.

@TheGradeZShow That's a great question. 1st, definitely they are much quieter! BUT they still do sound out quite loud if you hit them hard enough; but the sound doesn't travel very far. If you're not trying to disturb next door neighbors, then you should be fine. If you're worried about not disturbing people in the next room to you, then you could end up slightly annoying them!

If I could correct something you mentioned concerning "rubber" padded cymbals, they do have multiple triggers in them to get different sounds, just not acoustically. Most of Roland's cymbals, for example, are 2 way triggers and their ride cymbals are 3 way; edge, bow, and bell. Perhaps I misunderstood the point you were trying to make but as a TD 20 owner, I just wanted to point that out. Nice review overall, I was very curious about these cymbals so I am glad you put this together.

I've never hooked them up to an amp, only straight to headphones. But I would say, yeah you can certainly make the cymbals louder if they were plugged into speakers. Just turn up the volume on the Z-16 brain module, by turning the Drum&Cym mixer more towards Cym.
@manishbhoir11 жыл бұрын
I think I found out the problem your having with the Hi-hat pin plugin out. It might be happening cause the wire is stuck in the bottom hi-hat cymbal hole so while the opening and closing of hi-hat the pin comes out. I suggest you pull a little excess wire and put something so that wire holds in. Thanks for the in depth Info on Gen16.
@coatlecue11 жыл бұрын
A solution; spin the top high hat around so you have a couple of loops to guard against unplugging to soon. Keep the top one bolted firm. Other them that, very very well done indeed!!

I got it at Guitar Center. So just search on their website for "Roland V Drums." Not sure about the mark. Because my Brain Module says TD-9, but on the website the TD-9 is $3000 as opposed to mine which I got for $2,000. I'm gonna upload an extended sound test today. But so far, it's worked pretty well with the Gen 16. :)

Thanks for posting this I've been trying to find in depth answers to why these cymbals are good. Not even Gen16's youtube page goes in to depth. One thing I must ask is, if you have these hook ed to some kind of speaker can you make them louder like that? I'm sorry if that sounds like a stupid question.
@jonesygw12 жыл бұрын
I just bought these last week, I noticed the mount for the brain is of very poor design. The mount is relying on a magnet to keep the thing mounted on the rack. Did you do anything to make it more secure to prevent it from falling on the floor? I used some gorrilla tape to help secure it,which is somthing you shouldn't have to do after spending almost a thousand bucks. Also you mentioned your ride input was not working, What is the reason? Thanks. Gary

You're a good man for making this dude. I'm thinking about replacing my rubber CY's because they just don't have realistic response. That and the VH-12's suck balls. Anyway thanks again dude!
@rhythmantic12 жыл бұрын
That's a very good idea, thanks.
@MayerEO12 жыл бұрын
@jonesygw I agree, I had some problems with it sliding off. I honestly left it at is. It's placed under, slightly to the right of my hi-hat. From there, nothing is really able to accidentally hit it. Then I tilted the brain downwards where I sit. (Because the brain slides off when pulled UPWARD, when it's tilted downward, it sits on its own weight, unable to slide off) If you need a photo example just message me!

Can these cymbals trigger drum sample software such as Addictive Drums, Superior Drummer? I'm more interested in playing on metal as opposed to rubber, therefore the "feel" is what I would use these cymbals for and not for their "sound". Thanks for the demo.

@OnlyNoobsPlayHorde11 жыл бұрын
Ok, commenting at 5 minutes into the video, these are acoustic-electric cymbals, and it would be stupid to make them sound electronic by adding special effects to them. These were made to have a real acoustic cymbal sound going through an amp live (because these are too expensive to just buy for practice, just use your electric ones) instead of having a crappy recorded cymbal sound. I don't know why you don't get that.

Been searching for this kinda review on how it sound acoustically. I guess it defeats the purpose of having e-drum? I'm using yamaha dtxpress 4, not the best feeling pads and cymbals but they're probably a lot less noisier, these just sound like how loud a cymbal can be when its hit hard.

You may also consider using these to record your audio and then use a sound replacement software to trigger your midi cymbals.much more work in the editing dept.but if you dont care for the sound of the gen16's it may well be worth it.

Using the pink sticks you lost a lot of frecuencys in the low and middle range, sounds excesive brilliant, probably is the sound that are you looking for, "pretty elctronic" I know I'm an idiot trying to obtain acustic sounds with an electronic drumm :p makes no sense, I love acustic sounds, and latelly I experimenting with elecronics efects, is another instrument, we can't compare. Thanks for the review man
