Marcus is to his craft what Pynchon and DeLillo are to post-modernism literature. He is a giant! I am a professional writer who has been playing and studying jazz drums/percussion now for 30 years and I cannot tell you how Marcus does it, but his playing is an inspiration to my WRITING. Taking chances, pushing the art forward, always serving the greater purpose (the music). He is truly a magnificent blessing.

The Young guy is soaking all this in @ 3:14 😎😂,, reminds me of when I was about his age when I 1st heard, Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke , The Brecker Brothers, Return to forever , Yellowjackets , etc. , and then I found out about, Louis Armstrong , Lou Donaldson, Bird, Trane, Miles, etc. , back when all we had was vinyl / records/ albums, no stereo yet, I know there are about two people that remembers those times 😅, but it was sounds / harmonies/ moods of music never heard before . My Point partly is to thank the parent(s) for allowing thier kid to hear other genres of music , especially if u can see they are feeling it at that age, when I was his age my parents purchased a Bundy Saxophone for me, I’m south of 60 now and like all kids I wanted drums, finally bought a modest set of digital drums so I wouldn’t drive my Wife crazy, yea, better late than never, just practicing rudiments, paradiddles, fundamentals, . Muscle memory can still be learned even at my seasoned age, but the discipline is what pervades All Ages and Myself , better to do it earlier at a younger age,, but, DO IT, plus music helps so much with Stress Release ! 🤯🤬🤧😎

For me, Marcus' solo drumming is enigmatic and beautiful and just... beyond words. someone else in the comments section here praised the sound engineer too which i think is totally appropriate... the mix and micing of the drums (along with the great background instrumentation) seemed to provide just the right canvas to display Marcus's genius. i've often found myself enjoying to watch great drummers as much as i enjoy listening to them. with Marcus i feel like i just need to listen - he is channeling or pulling something from the quantum realm - and i feel i better appreciate the scope of its magnificence when the sound is everything - all consuming. again, hard to find the words
