I remember hearing Galactic for the first time probably around 2000 and being blown away, seeing it live for the first time 4 years later, even more so. Now here we are 20 years later on KZbin and you still keep raising the bar. You're drumming is as incredible now as it was when you first inspired me

i really appreciate how the panning of the drum sounds mimics how it is from the drummers point of view not the audiences. it feels more natural to me as a drummer to listen to

@@xanderwebb7998 so much this. I have explicitly told technicians that have recorded me to do this because it's part of the "arrangement" in my ears. I feel disoriented when the sounds are misplaced in the room, listening back to my own stuff. (Let it be said that I'm a very amateur drummer and most technicians are expertly proficient and delights to work with. So this is by no means a stab at the sound guys. They typically make me sound better than I deserve to.)

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of hanging with Stanton a few times. Not only one of the worlds nicest people EVER, but a serious drummer in every aspect. People don’t realize how unreal his limb independence is. You can totally hear the Ziggy, Purdie, Tony Willams, and Clyde/Jabo in his playing.

Is it just me or does every episode of this actually just showing off how insane sput is? The dude can play multiple instruments at the level required to play this stuff. Its INSANE. Most musos would only dream of being able to play 1 instrument at this level. Sput is the true god here.

@@markmann860 Yeah, Pridgen's set was freaking insane! Not only did he literally start at 9000, he somehow managed to maintain it his whole set. I like how humble he was about it, too, because at the end of his set he said something like "I can't play it any better than that. I don't know what I"m doing on this chart.", and then somebody in the audience said "well it seems like you figured it out!" lol. Having said that, however, I'm a big fan of *all* of these drummers and would have a very difficult time picking favorites. I'm just enjoying the ride and I hope that Zildjian and Sput continue this beautiful charade every year!

I lost my index finger on my right hand. I like 3 fingered chords up top in the melody. Learning the 16th pattern in bass is awesome. I am a drummer and I played jazz piano as a kid. This has revolutionized my thinking. Life changing brother. Thank you. I love playing in a band when they need a piano tract, jump off drums and help out.

Watching this makes me realize how much Stanton influenced me! I love way he plays between the cracks and moves time forward with effortless variation. He always grooves. He’s such a hybrid...not straight NOLA not straight funk. Love seeing his style getting some love in today’s drumming scene.

I just saw Stanton Moore live in NOLA at d.b.a. Ive been a fan of his and Galactic for over 20 years. The show at d.b.a was awesome. So small. I had to tune into this killer recording. Moore was the best show during 4 days of jazzfest. He is a maestro on the drums.

Techniques that allow parallel arms for drumming are just so liberating. It allows an open style drumming that is so free and entails so much power and variety as opposed to the ancient crossed arms - right hand hi-hat process.
