The thing is, Gergo is not only an absolutely astonishing drummer, but he writes the most interesting and complex music too. I know he looks up to drummers like Vinnie and all the greats that came before, but he’s almost unique in respect to how much music he’s written and performed as well. That song was Gergo's composition and arrangement. Billy Cobham was his greatest inspiration and his major influences on drumming were mostly black drummers. Gergo's very first interview was at eight years old and the interviewer asked him, "What do you want to be when you become an adult?" to which Gergo replied, "I want to be a black drummer." Aaron broke out laughing and quipped, "Well, you're halfway there." They both laughed their asses off. Le😎 Percussionist/Drummer San Francisco, Califusa

At this point in the evolution of drumming it is no longer who is the fastest, who can play eight ostinatos over the bar with independence; many drummers can now do this. I think I've watched this 100 times. Firstly want to thank Zildjian for the incredible production because it sounds phenomenal. All the musicians are obviously incredible and that is evidenced in their many performances - particularly the cross over with Snarky Puppy live performances. Gergo has a uniqueness and a relaxed conservation of movement that facilitates his speed and power. For all of the technical ability it never feels un musical, ever. There are some amazingly fast and technical players about that I just cannot connect to and I'm starting to realise that I think it's because I reject the ego that comes through their playing. With incredible skill, if you cannot reign your ego in, it can be to the detriment of amount of the soul you can express through your instrument. I never get that feeling in Gergo's playing. The linear precision aspects are not stiff because there is so much dynamic control and play around and over the barline within complex time signatures. It's just joyful to listen to and obviously this is supported by the skill of the other musicians. Most good producers know that you can have all your ducks in a row with your mic choices and desk and equipment and space but if you can't create an environment in a session where musicians feel good and able to perform at their best you will never capture the best performance. This is an absolute all round masterclass in capturing a performance and everyone involved deserves applause for the thousands of hours of learning and listening that culminated in that room on that day.

Alright, for me, this takes the cake as far as the "Zildjian LIVE!"'s goes. Not only do I think Gergo is the most skilled of all the drummers featured, but I genuinely feel the emotion come through in his playing. His playing just connects with the song, the musicians, the moment, and the listener. This is particularly astonishing given how technical and superlative his playing is. Despite the technical wizardry, his playing is still heartfelt and genuine. I got chills multiple times in this performance. Hats off to everyone involved.

@@viktormuerte Yes, absolutely. He has a mastery over rudiments that none of the other featured drummers have. Just witness any of his solos on KZbin in which he plays (for just one example) single stroke rolls at the tempo and with the same energy as Buddy Rich used to play. I've never seen any of the other drummers featured in ZildjianLive approach that level in anything they've played. I'm intimately familiar with all of their work, none of them come close to Gergo's technical ability, which is not a slight against their musicality/chops/talent it's just an observation of Gergo's superiority in the technicality (skill) department.

Gergo is surely up there with the world's best, but I'm certainly not qualified to decide who takes the crown. The reason I come back time and time again to this session is not for the technique, incredible tho it is. Gergo's playing speaks to me in a way that no other drummer I've heard does.
