I agree with Chuck that living off grid and mobile is amazing and puts one in touch with the elements that pretty much would other be ignored!!

His passion, drive and desire to do this is so incredibly inspiring! He knows exactly who he is and what kind of person he wants to become. He doesn't worry about the conventional lifestyle that society convinces us to live, he's just happy living the lifestyle he wants to live! It's my dream to do the same. What an inspiration. :)

After watching a minute of your video, what you've said propelled me to say that most are clueless about perseverance and survival! It took you needing to survive to have you move in the direction of designing your home by way of a bus. I know this all to well myself. Although I never had to design a bus for a home, but I did so with a big empty basement.......... electricity, lighting, tiling, doors (everything that's needed for an outcome) and I never did construction or the likes before. This type of drive and insight definitely comes from a place within you that you unknowingly reach out to and the best that you have comes to the core. I can literally built a shower from scratch with whatever material I fancy and one would think that I got the idea from elsewhere. Having to make something out of nothing is the best teacher anyone can cross paths with

Thank you Zillow for bringing us this lovely man. I love what he's doing and how he thinks about it. I lived in a railroad boxcar when I was little. My dad talked about living in a bus and it's been a dream ever since. Getting pretty old now and it might remain a dream, but I never lose hope. Watching him brought it all back. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful bus! Oh it's great that you have made a business out of something you love doing and you and your friend do it so well... I think that is what everyone wants from life, to be living in a space that doesn't cripple you financially and working at something you're passionate about. I think it's wonderful. I am going to try to convert a bus here in the UK. I have a permanent place to put it but I really want to travel a bit before settling down. It's the ideal situation, you can just drive to wherever you fancy (it is pretty easy to go anywhere in Europe) and then take it back home when you feel you want to. I can't think of anything better!

I love your woodwork! I work at a school district that auctions off buses every year. I've got the opportunity to snatch one up and follow your lead. The older buses are much less trouble and cheaper to repair. Anything non emission (2006 and older) is a good candidate to convert.

In modern times, you have a few options: pay $1+K a month on a rental for the rest of your life, do some credit trickery to gain and keep credit then apply for a mortgage on a house that is a quarter-million dollars then pay on it for thirty years, or take an alternative route (tiny homes, bus homes, RV life, etc). For $10K and half a year or so you can get a livable bus. For $30K and a year, you can get a really nice bus. A benefit of a bus is the customizability. You can design it to have the layout that YOU want. I'm contemplating building a bus so that my disabled mom and I can go on one last road trip before she passes. I doubt she has ten years left on this Earth. I can find a mid-sized bus with a wheelchair lift and design it so that a walker and wheelchair can fit in the aisles. I can design it to be essentially handicap accessible. You're unlikely to find such in an RV. The big problem with this plan for me is that I don't have $20K laying around. I'm going to have to figure out how to make this happen hopefully within the next three years.

I've had many buses and If I left the flashing lights on the top then I exchanged the red in the front for the amber in the rear since the red in the front is illegal unless it is an emergency vehicle. Easy swap. Also painted over the s and h so it said "cool bus". On one of them I moved the swing out arm off the front bumper (changed the arm to a pole) to the roof and put a flag on it. It would raise and lower by flipping a switch. Never did go this far with a conversion, somebody always made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The worse part is removing the seats and getting rid of the smelly rubber mat. Nice conversion on this one.

Basically legitness. I'm a vet struggling with PTSD and the VA refuses to help me unless I start 5 different types of psychotropic drugs. The "Doctor" said, in the same breath, " we will not help you unless you take these drugs. Maybe you just need a goal." As I walked half a mile back to my truck (the VA employees have private parking right next to the buildings) I thought/broaded. I devised the idea to renovate school buses to help homeless vets since the VA won't. I also want to call all the buses on occasion to do a flash mob at the VA facilities blocking the employee parking until they are all in to work, and then moving out so vets could get the good parking!!! This is my dream and it's going to happen. I will make that "Doctor" regret those words ever coming out her mouth!

Hi I really like your bus conversion. I have been trying to figure out how I might fit in a bus. I am 6 ft 3-4 inches. I remember banging my head when I was in school. Is it possible to lower the walk way or is it better to raise the roof. I do know that 13 ft 6 inches is the legal height for semi's in all states. ( you can get over sized permits though. ) I have just about have my design figured out now but I need some knowledge and experience to help with the hard part. I also need to have a good insulation for -10 to -30 below zero some times cold weather.
