One of my players favourite encounters was when they were in the frozen north near Bryn Shander and were attacked by a rare pack of blink huskies. Just made blink dogs fluffy.

And apparently they both have the density of stone. It's not like water so you don't sink. Now, that just makes those magma sharks a little more terrifying in appearance I think because I'm picturing almost like water Strider legs and feet I'd also consider just giving them the elemental creature type tbh :D

You would also need them to have constant meld into stone. Lava is very viscose and I would reckon you'd need more than fire immunity.

@@spudsbuchlaw my dude, both entering lava and ending your turn on it means a 6d10 fire damage (source: Princes of the Apocalypse) . Plus 2d8+4 piercing damage from the bite if it was a hunter shark (3d10+6 if it is a giant shark). Not only that but you are both restrained and walking in what would most likely be treated as difficult terrain (molten rock isn’t exactly fluid) so even if you manage to escape from the shark’s grip, you still need to walk all the way back to safe land swimming half your speed(which is already probably half of your walking speed since… well, you’re swimming, unless if you have chosen one from a few races that can swim as fast as they can run). And that is only one shark, not even considering that the bastard can DIVE.

@@tiagobarbosa8262 Ah, but you forget. The shark wouldnt automatically knock you in the lava. If a Shark jumps out, it can use it's one attack to either damage or shove. I assume its shove in this case because it's much better damage (1d8+2 btw for a reef shark vs 6d10 lava) Assuming to manages to shove with its +2 Str (or even its +4 Attack) which is low, 6d10=33 av damage, which a 6+ level character will likely survive, and if not, revivify! Plus, 15 swim speed or even less if fine given it's likely a 5 ft shove, 10 if you're really leanient. It's dangerous, dont get me wrong, but likely not TPK worthy. If your DM is a dick and makes you fly 20 feet, take a billion damage unfairly, sure It's an encounter you either run from, or ready actions when they pop out and do at least 22 damage, because they're still Reef Sharks and when they jump out they dont get pack tactics. A party of 4 level 6s will struggle, and 7th level or beyond itll likely be fine. If there are like 15 of them, maybe itll be a worry, but in average it's not quite TPK material

Dude making sharks immune to lava would increase their CR as a grapple into lava= instant death for your low strength players

i need a monster that can be destroyed on contract with water, that have the intelligence of cliché zombies, and can be summoned by a necromancer. i have an idea for an under water segment of a campaign where the water would be enchanted so people could breath in it. basically it would be a city that was constantly under siege by this hords of this creature so the court wizard found a way to flood the city as both a means of dealing with the hords of this creature and as a means if attracting tourists to stimulate the economy. However it will be revealed that the court wizard’s lover orchestrated the whole thing, summoning the hords, and setting into motion the wizard finding the right books to cast the spell. the city would have 4-5 geysers spewing bubbles to oxygenate the water that would later be corrupted which would be the cause of the three foot thick layer of sludge/pollution on top of the lake. the party would come across the remnants of the wizard’s lover after purifying the geysers only to discover that its a lich who escapes. Turns out, that three foot thick layer of pollution was actually the lake slowly turning into a GIANT slime that would engulf a city but would instead retreat with the lich to a nearby abandoned dwarf citadel within a hollowed mountain leaving a trail of death to coax the party into exploring further on. basically, the lich had gone to the elemental plain of air, stole one of the floating mountains and set it down in the mountain range, manipulated some dwarfs into hollowing it out into a fortress to be used to transport hos armys and slime on an assault on the oldest, and holiest cities in the world

@@ZipperonDisney so instant death as they will need to do a strength save. Then swim across while taking 2 opportunity attacks. Then has to make another save to climb up onto the path again. Unless they have 110+ health they don’t stand a chance

@@di11onm1nkgaming worse than that, the character is surprised, so they can't even act on their first turn and thus eat the lava damage twice. This is why I think it's silly to say you can't challenge high level characters: a dangerous environment and some creativity just wrecked them with two CR 1/2 monsters
