The Zippo Refillable Hand Warmer- amzn.to/3E9W0Xy would have been great when we recently lost power for days here in Austin. My electric rechargeable hand warmers became paperweights after the first day. But when the power is on the Zippo hand warmer isn't my first choice.

I trout fish during the colder months and carry two of those hand warmers, one in a side pocket of my coat and one in a chest pocket. Works really well to help keep me warm.

You didn’t light it with a zippo what a shame

I’ve used these a few times a year for maybe 10 years now. I’ve lit it & had it in my pocket while cross-country skiing, hiking during the winter, & snow-blowing. They work really well & do indeed go for 12 hrs! I’ve filled them 1/2 way & they’ve gone 6 hours, too.

Quick tip: You can actually turn off the warmer by placing it in a zip lock bag, squeezing all the air out and suffocating the catalyst. I do it all the time and It saves me from wasting fuel. 🙂

Oh yes, use a zip lock bag because it's a Zippo warmer.

Agree indoor not so great like home because of the fumes. But awesome as a backup. Just make sure to have plenty of ventilation

Thanks Samantha! I am testing them out right out during what might be the last cold spell we have this winter.

The smell depends a bit on the fuel you put inside. Alkalyt 4 will almost have no smell

@@parristx I found out since I run my svea 123R with alkalkyt 4 due to the same reason. I would even with less smell still carry a ziplock so you can shut it down by depriving it of oxygen and also stopping all fuel from evaporating. You can also diy new catalysator pieces if you buy platinum wool which is commonly used for those ethanol inhouse furnances. Pretty cheap. And depending on how much you stuff inside you can increase the heat output.

Well this is a bit outdated and its only been 8 months. But we are now looking at $24 for the hand warmer and $3 for the 4 oz fuel. Fun fact. The zippo fuel and hand warmer fuel is the same thing, and they advertize that the hand warmers will run in both. Additionally 12 oz of zippo fuel was $7 as oposed to the 4 oz hand warmer fuel for $3.

The Coleman camp fuel is also the same and a looooot cheaper than anything labeled zippo. 👌

It doesn't look like you lit it properly. You are supposed to hold the flame to each hole individually until lit. Im sure you only lit one part of the wick. I could be wrong but you didn't seem to hold the flame still and it didn't warm up very much.

I think you do need to be careful if your hands are so cold they are numb. You don't want to burn yourself without realizing it.
