The greatest performance I've ever heard of La Cenerentola was Levine, Bartoli, Vargas, Corbelli and Alaimo, Met, 1997. Corbelli, in particular, was brilliant.

Ich bin rinfach sprachlos...aber etwas MUSS ich schreiben: Wenn die perfektion der heutigen opernaufführungen mit den aktuellen sängern wie flores,hvorostovsky,netrebko,garancia,pavarotti und gerade jetzt neu aufstrebenden jungtalenten unter der leitung von dirigentengenies und superregisseurenll weiter in diesem zeitrythmus fortschreitet , dürfen wir gar nie mehr sterben... Wir verpassen sonst zuviel Ich bin mittlerweile 81 jahre alt und habe schon so oft "beste aufführungen aller zeiten " miterleben DÜRFEN,dass mir bald schwindlig wird... Bei mir stellt sich immer mehr die frage: Haben sich die genialen komponisten in ihrem inneren "komponierohr" die fantastischen melodien im klang der sänger und instrumentalisten IHRER Zeit vernommen, oder waren sie so inspiriert, dass z.b. rossini,würde er heute noch leben, kommentieren: "Ja,ja!sooo ist es endlich richtig,wie ich es genau komponiert habe" Oder gar:"ich warte immer noch auf die interpreten ,die dies alles erst GANZ RICHTIG zustandebringen weden!" ja eben: wir opernnarren dürfen eben in nächster zeit noch nicht sterben...(die medizin mach's möglich(?)... tt

I've bought a DVD with la Cenerentola and JDF thinking it is this one from La Scala, but it is a weird production from Liceu with mice all around. JDF is great and all the other singers. I really with they put this on a DVD.

Well, Corbelli was Dandini in virtually every good Cenerentola version of the last 25 years, so I think he knows what he does. I mean- the last part of Largo al Factotum is also different when you listen to different baritones (a te fortuna non manchera vs. fortunatissimo per verita)

,Alvarez might not be the best ,but he has the right tone for Rossini music,you would be extremely disappointed and disgusted in this performance with a Pavarotti,or a Domingo,maybe a Carrera could be listenable,likewise the Baritone and the Ladies are very good(to my ears)Everybody seems well tuned in this Opera,and they are enjoying themselves.This is Rossini at his best with style&tone.Don't over criticize or analyse,relax,listen and ENJOY what maestro Rossini dished out for us.Saluti Gino

Sorry but fyi there is no such thing as a "real male tenor". The tenor voice as all voices are distinguished in categories depending on how dramatic or light they sound. On that basis they sing different repertory.
